Job Overview:
We are seeking an AAT or part-qualified Assistant Accountant to join our Shipping Group in London. As an Assistant Accountant, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of several UK-based companies within our group, including a team of investments and risk experts in the shipping industry and a shipping company that attracts tonnage tax. You will work closely with the Finance Manager based in the same office in London, the operations teams, and other accountants from other business units. Your role will also involve managing intragroup recharges and ensuring accurate financial information for our shipping group.
You’ll report to the Finance Manager, and will assist her with the below scope:
Responsibilities:
* Financial Management: Bookkeeping for the UK-based companies and some holding entities within our shipping group, ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and internal policies. Bookkeeping is maintained primarily in Microsoft Dynamics (business central).
* Stakeholder Communication: Help in the preparation of data (in the accounting system) and outside the accounting system, where relevant, with the view to help in the preparation of financial reports.
* Intragroup Recharges: Prepare outgoing or review incoming intragroup recharges and ensure accurate and timely financial transactions between the entities within our shipping group.
* Payments: You’ll be responsible for the AR and the AP cycles, inclusive of the preparation of payments using our online banking.
* VAT: Responsible for gathering the VAT related information and reports for the finance manager review.
* Expense claim management/review for the UK based employees.
* Compliance and Reporting: Help as necessary with the external accountants and auditors as necessary.
Qualifications:
* Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in the accounting industry or practice.
* Financial Compliance: Familiarity with regulations, reporting requirements, and tax implications specific to the shipping industry in the UK.
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with colleagues at all levels and build strong working relationships.
* Analytical Abilities: Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy, identify trends, and provide valuable financial insights.
* Solution-oriented: Proactive and forward-thinking mindset with the ability to propose and implement process improvements to optimize financial operations.
* Systems Proficiency: Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Business Central is valuable.
* Organized and Multitasking: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
