Job summary
Perform unsupervised work including activities that may be demanding and/or manage, co-ordinate and assist the Mechanical trade staff in performing their day-to-day duties on a wide range of engineering plant, equipment and services. Ensure satisfactory standards of discipline, conduct, welfare and timekeeping are maintained and implement Trust policies in respect to managed and control programmes of maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and capital work across the Trust as directed. Ensuring acceptable standards of productivity and quality are achieved whilst also complying with statutory requirements, Trust safety standards and under own initiative to undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements, and capital work across the undertake training for new practices, procedures and equipment and ensure that staff under his/her control are suitably trained for the work being undertaken.Efficiently and effectively organise resources including labour, transportation and materials. To include close liaison with suppliers, manufacturers and contractors to identify, source and order replacement parts for equipment undertake on-call duties as part of the on-call team to ensure that emergencies occurring outside normal hours are attended to.
Main duties of the job
To undertake all work activities as requested by the Estates Officer (Mechanical).
To work in accordance with Trust safety rules and procedures at all times.
To liaise with the Estates Officer (Mechanical) regarding plant or equipment failures or deviations to regulations
Undertake and support own staff in fault finding on complex steam, condensate, heating, hot water, air conditioning, hydraulic, medical gas and water or other critical equipment and gain a solution.
Acts as 'Competent Person' within the meaning of Health & Safety Commission's Approved Code of Practice L8 -- The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems when conducting control measures and strategies. Interprets the Code of Practice and notifies line manager of any non-compliance as and when encountered.
Performs the duties of the designated staff function 'Maintenance Technician' within the meaning of Health Technical Memorandum HTM04 when carrying out maintenance and routine testing of Hot and Cold Water, storage and distribution systems.
Performs the duties of the designated staff function 'Plant Operator' or 'Competent Person' within the meaning of Health Technical Memorandum HTM03 when carrying out maintenance duties on Ventilation installations.
Carrying out maintenance duties on Medical Gas Pipeline Systems and reports directly to the 'Authorised Person' when performing such duties.
