Job overview
To maintain a highly complex healthcare facility to a high standard to ensure compliance with the required standards; this in turn will ensure safe and suitable facilities for patients, visitors and staff to use or attend.
To undertake a wide range of work, ranging from day-to-day routine maintenance to more complex and non–routine, requiring an intermediate/high level of theoretical and practical knowledge normally acquired through formal training and at least 3 years relative experience.
Responsible for fault finding, installation and maintenance across the Trust properties.
Main duties of the job
Provide technical advice to other Estates maintenance staff and contractors to ensure compliance with safety standards and procedures. Core skills to include, but not limited to:
* Electrical Distribution
* Standby Generator Plant
* Nurse Call Systems
* Portable Appliance Testing
* Security Access Control
* Inspection and Testing
* Competent Person HTM 06-02 (Electrical Low Voltage Systems)

Multi-skilling tasks will include, but are not limited to, (subject to additional/recognised training where required) some or all of the following:
* Unblocking of macerators, toilets, sinks and drains
* Re-washering taps and ball valves (limited to ½” and ¾” domestic pipework services)
* Pump isolation and removal (Mechanical and Electrical services)
* Water Heater isolation and removal (Mechanical and Electrical services)
* Touching up paintwork and making good
* Repairing, modifying false ceiling tiles
* Minor carpentry repairs
* Making good minor defects to the building fabric by the application of commercial fillers
* Medical Gas terminal unit service and replacement
Person specification
Qualifications/Training
* Time served Apprenticeship or Adult training
* City & Guilds 2365 Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installations or equivalent
* Adequate knowledge of general Engineering, electrical and other trades’ principles for multi-skilling
* Completion of a structured training programme in Electrical Engineering
* Intermediate level of theoretical knowledge and practices due to complexity of plant and machinery
* City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing
Knowledge/experience
* Proof of having worked within a complex property/building
* Proven competency within an electrical field of engineering
* Completion of a structured training programme in Electrical Engineering
* Intermediate level of theoretical knowledge and practices due to complexity of plant and machinery
* Experience of working in an Acute Hospital environment.
* Working at Heights trained
Physical skills
* Highly developed skills required to use complex specialised tools and gauges in the repair of plant and equipment
* Correct and accurate use of tools and equipment
* Precision and dexterity required in handling tools working to fine tolerances
* Frequent requirement to carry loads in excess of 15 kg
* Occasional requirement to manoeuvre equipment weighing in excess of 50 kg using specialised equipment
* Able to meet travel requirements of the role including out-of-hours attendance
* Possession of a current driving license and have access to vehicle
