Early Years Teaching Assistant
Salary: £22,070 FTE
Location: Primary school just outside Launceston
Contract Type: Temp-to-Perm (Initially with Teaching Personnel, transitioning to a school contract)
Start Date: w/c 6th January 2025 (or sooner, if possible)
Hours: 30 hours per week (Monday- Friday)
Term Time: 38 weeks (Support Staff Only)
About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated Early Years Teaching Assistant to join our team at a primary school just outside Launceston. This is a temp-to-perm position, starting with Teaching Personnel before transitioning to a permanent contract with the school. The role will initially be on a temporary basis, with the opportunity to move into a permanent position at the end of the contract.
In this role, you will work closely with the Pre-School/Nursery Manager, sharing the responsibility for caring for and assisting with activities for early years children. You will help in the practical organisation of pre-school activities and group work, while ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and educational progress of the children.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Support individuals or groups of children across all areas of learning, under the direction of the Pre-School Manager, to help develop their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social skills.
2. Assist with planning, evaluating, and delivering learning activities in line with the Early Years Framework and Development Matters in EYFS, encouraging children to work towards Early Learning Goals.
3. Monitor and document children's progress through observations, providing feedback to the Pre-School Manager and parents.
4. Engage children by supporting their interests and helping them access planned activities, including the use of IT resources.
5. Assist with day-to-day practical activities, such as tidying, serving snacks, and helping with personal hygiene routines.
6. Create and maintain a vibrant learning environment by preparing and updating wall displays.
7. Provide support to children with specific learning difficulties, ensuring they can fully access the EYFS curriculum.
8. Accompany children on outings and administer minor first aid or prescribed medications as needed.
9. Promote good behavior and self-discipline in line with the nursery’s positive behavior policy.
Key Skills & Attributes:
1. Experience in early years settings or working with young children
2. A strong understanding of the Early Years Framework
3. Patience, creativity, and a nurturing approach
4. Strong communication skills for working with children, staff, and parents
5. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
6. A valid DBS on the update service, or willingness to complete a new DBS check
7. Need to hold a valid Early years Qualification- NVQ Level 3 or CACHE level 2
