About the Collections Care Technician role : Located in the Museum’s Collections Care team, this post is to provide backfill for project working and plays a central role in the delivery of a comprehensive and integrated programme of collections care across all five National Museums Scotland sites. Collections Care Technicians deliver efficient handling, movement and packing of collections in support of the Museum’s programme of displays, exhibitions, loans and effective collection storage as well as object cleaning for collections on display and in store. As a Collections Care Technician at National Museums Scotland you will : Coordinate the Museum’s object movement programme to achieve exhibitions, loans, displays, tours, digitisation, and capital projects, ensuring the planned, timely, safe, and efficient movement of collections in liaison with internal and external stakeholders as appropriate. Undertake specialist technical collection packing for exhibition, loan and tour identifying innovative solutions across a large and diverse collection to agreed Museum standards and health and safety requirements. Support the delivery of object deep cleaning with specialist training to safely access collections at height across all Museum sites. Support the Preventive Conservation and Conservation programmes as appropriate with the application of specialist technical knowledge. Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Collections Care Technician : A first degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent experience Technical knowledge relevant to the management of diverse collection types Proven relevant experience in a similar Collections Care role in the museums/heritage sector Experience with data entry and data checking in a museum/archive collection database Hiring the right person for the right job is everything to us.
