Job overview
Working in partnership with the wider community to identify public health priorities and reduce health inequalities. The post holder will improve on existing breastfeeding rates by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care programmes that aim to enhance current practice and support complex breastfeeding issues. The post holder will provide a Frenulotomy Service to increase breastfeeding rates.
The infant feeding lead will maintain the Baby Friendly Initiative and ensure gold accreditation is sustained, lead training programmes for parents, staff, and service users, while providing expert knowledge to both trained and untrained staff, acting as a role model and setting high standards.
Main duties of the job
* Support staff, parents, and families to improve the initiation and continuation of breastfeeding rates at NLaG and establish good practice in infant nutrition.
* Assist the BFI lead in implementing WHO/UNICEF best practice standards for breastfeeding throughout the Trust by developing, teaching, and educational programmes for health professionals involved in supporting women to breastfeed and assisting parents who choose to artificially feed and experience complex issues.
* Raise the profile of breastfeeding and its benefits to change culture and improve infant nutrition.
* Assist the BFI Lead in delivering high-quality standards of care related to breastfeeding and infant feeding in hospital and community settings in line with the Baby Friendly UK Initiative.
* Help deliver a high-quality training programme for staff in acute and community settings to raise the level of skill and expertise in supporting families with breastfeeding.
* Provide additional support to families or professionals facing difficulties in establishing and maintaining breastfeeding.

Person specification
Education & Training
* Registered Midwife – active on the NMC register.
* Evidence of in-depth experience and postgraduate study or post-registration study such as master’s degree or equivalent experience.
* SSSA/equivalent trained.
* NIPE trained.
Occupational experience
* Practicing Midwife with a minimum of 1 year’s experience at Band 6.
* Experience at Band 7.
* Previous involvement in leading change to develop practice.
