Description Wood is on the hunt for Civil Engineers of all levels of experience to join Transmission & Distribution Ltd UK Engineering team as part of our continued ongoing growth which is not just tied to single projects. The position will focus on overseeing HV overhead line and/or underground cable projects, however we'd like to hear from you if you can demonstrate an understanding of design of concrete, earthworks, geotechnical or spread/piled foundations, experience with the specification/interpretation of geotechnical investigations and production of design calculations and reports. As civil engineer, you will provide design management, civil engineering design and advice as required to meet project requirements. Reporting to the Principal Civil Engineer and supporting the Senior Civil Engineer, the role of the Civil Engineer focusses on the engineering required for project development. This includes management of the layout design process, identification and mitigation of project risks and delivery of elements of design, along with interfacing with project stakeholders and consultants, and technical review of preliminary designs or ad-hoc technical/regulatory advice. Additionally, the Civil Engineer supports by providing advice, review, and design services, and to promote consistent best practice in civil engineering and design. Responsibilities What You Will Do: Manage and deliver the engineering required to develop safe, buildable, and cost-efficient projects - performing technical and feasibility studies, including analysing maps, survey reports, plans, and related data to create and design civil engineering projects. Perform engineering assessments to identify and manage risk to projects through their life cycle - carrying out extensive impact assessments and identifying potential risk factors that can affect project delivery. Collaborate with others performing specialist works e.g. survey, geotechnical, pile design, and flood risk as part of project development. Interface with project stakeholders and provide advice on engineering aspects which affect safety, quality, cost, and programme of project development. Lead on the development and implementation of innovative solutions to maximise the value and minimise the cost of projects - determining construction costs, local and professional building regulations, environmental impacts, and other factors that can affect project implementation. Coordinate best practice, promote, and maintain consistency and high technical standards across Wood Transmission & Distribution Ltd. Create drawings with design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation, and Tekla Tedds. Undertake complex calculations to Eurocode 2, Eurocode 7, BS8004, etc. Compile subcontractor specifications and supervising tendering procedures. Control the production and development of documents and drawings using a do/check/approval process and Bentley ProjectWise. Resolve design and development problems. Manage budgets and project resources. Schedule material and equipment purchases and deliveries. Make sure the project complies with legal requirements, especially health and safety. Ensure projects run smoothly and structures are completed within budget and on time. Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience and Skills: Honours degree in Civil Engineering or related subject. Eligible to progress towards CEng status through the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Acquired practical application of engineering knowledge to civil engineering projects. Proven experience of managing health, safety, and risk mitigation in design. An interest in the development and implementation of new processes and technology. An understanding of engineering principles as they affect project development. Specialist knowledge in a relevant area of civil engineering e.g. geotechnical, earthworks, drainage would be an advantage. Working knowledge of UK CDM Regulations. Understanding of cross-functional project requirements and priorities. Commercial awareness relating to contract compliance, cost control and relative value of engineering solutions. Sound time management skills to balance project priorities. Collaborative working style across project functions. Proven presentation skills to technical and non-technical stakeholders. Attention to detail skills during draft and review of engineering deliverables. Fluent spoken and written English language. Ability to drive is beneficial.
