Job Title: Mass Properties Engineer

Salary: £41,361 – £45,576
What you’ll be doing:
1. Mass properties management of all new design and changes, including analysing production drawings, change authorities, Catia models, 2-D drawings, etc.
2. Mass property modelling of all design activities.
3. Mass properties management of full aircraft supporting our final assembly activities.
4. Management of the safety-critical Upload Mass properties data for all in-service fleets that BAE Systems support.
5. Management of the aircraft mass properties for all assets that support our flight testing activities.
6. Aircraft and stores weighing activities.
7. Development of the mass properties toolsets.
Your skills and experiences:
1. Understanding of data/data management and strong numeracy skills.
2. Basic knowledge of the fundamentals of managing a mass properties system.
3. Intermediate Excel proficiency – e.g., macros, pivot tables, visual basic, etc.
4. Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively at all levels.

The Weights team:
The Weights team is tasked with the Design Authority mass properties data across multiple platforms e.g. Typhoon, Tornado, Hawk, F35, etc. Our design activities require drawing assessments, mass property modelling, data configuration management, etc. Our build line support work drives us to physically weigh aircraft and produce flight safety-critical data direct from the weighing that is then uploaded to aircraft. Our flight development fleet activities see us contracted by the Maintenance Organisation to manage the mass properties of their fleet of aircraft, which also helps with our capability enhancement programmes that include the insertion of new stores.
