The garden holds nationally significant plant collections and at its centre is the Messel family home – a partial ruin. Warm and welcoming, the remaining rooms offer a charming insight to the lives of the people that once lived there. The adjoining SSSI woodland, features areas of coppice, veteran trees, ghylls, ponds, a system of rides, visible heritage and archaeology, over 40 breeding birds and is bordered by 100 hectares of farmland that is in it's second year of transformation towards a mosaic of diverse habitats - using the Woodmeadows approach.Collaboration is an essential part of the role, whether working with the garden team to make use of coppice products, with the visitor experience team to develop new and interesting events in nature, or working with the volunteering team to make sure we maintain a fulfilled, involved and well-trained volunteer team.This is a great role to build on your experience and develop solid foundations for a career in wildlife conservation and countryside management.Click here for more information about this locationAs the Ranger, you’ll lead the day to day management a team of Volunteers working throughout the portfolio: following guidance from the Lead Ranger, together you will build and manage an effective and flexible seasonal work programme.You’ll support your fellow rangers in undertaking engagement and conservation work.You'll conduct ecological monitoring to assess the impact of our practical work on the habitats we care for.You’ll build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors and tenants. You'll assist Forest School Sessions within the woodland, enriching the experience for the next generation of nature enthusiastsYou’ll also communicate our conservation work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing, through events, guided walks and engagement with local communities. You’ll build relationships in the local community, passing on your knowledge and enthusiasm to encourage others to love this area as much as you do.
