Job description:
The Environment Agency is fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We don't just talk about diversity; we seek it, embrace it and live it, for the benefit of our staff, our communities and our environment.
We want the Environment Agency to be a life-enhancing place to work - a place where you are able to bring your whole self to work and where difference is truly valued. We're an organisation that values ideas and new concepts from all our staff and we are continually looking at how to evolve our culture and values.
We help people and wildlife adapt to climate change, work to reduce impacts of flooding, drought, rising sea levels and coastal erosion. We improve the quality of water, land and air by addressing pollution, working with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.
At the Environment Agency, we aim to protect and improve the environment as a whole and promote sustainable development. If you have a passion for the environment, this Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship will develop skills and capabilities and equip you with experience/opportunities to make a real difference. This is a fantastic opportunity for a person looking to build a career in protecting and improving the environment.
You will spend one day a week at university rather than your place of employment. There will also be learning activities at your workplace and some working outdoors. The study aspect of the apprenticeship is day release one day a week and field trips. You must be willing to travel for study and work from home to complete parts of this apprenticeship. The programme leads to a BSc (Hons) Environmental Science (Degree Apprenticeship) and Level 6 Environment Practitioner.
The team:
You will work across a range of teams over the course of this apprenticeship to deliver projects and enhance your knowledge and practical skills. This will give you a broad understanding of our business and ultimately will help you formulate ideas for your preferred career path within the Environment Agency.
As well as receiving coaching and mentoring from professional team members, you will work with and learn from experienced Environmental Practitioners.
Experience/skills required:
1. Strong interest in science and the environment and be passionate about creating a better place for people and wildlife.
2. Comfortable working outdoors, in different locations, with different people and different teams.
3. Be curious, ask questions and want to continually develop.
4. An open and flexible approach with the determination to make change happen.
5. A positive and pro-active attitude.
Qualifications/Eligibility criteria:
1. A-level: 96 to 120 UCAS tariff points from at least two A-levels or equivalent 2 A-Levels e.g. Geography, Sciences, Geology or Maths (Grade A*-C). Essential General studies and Native language at both A-Level and AS levels are not accepted in the tariff.
2. BTEC level: BTEC or equivalent Science or Engineering related (Grade DMM) essential.
3. Access to HE Diploma: Pass Access to HE Diploma in relevant subjects e.g. Engineering, Science, Business and Maths.
Apprenticeships commence September 2025.
