South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust
An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, forward-thinking and collaborative team at South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. Our Dietetic Department of more than 55 staff is managed as one team, but is structured into smaller teams led by Senior Specialist Dietitians. We are actively involved in the training of Trainee Dietitians and offer A, B and C placements for both Leeds Beckett and Newcastle University.
You will lead on tackling frailty (nutrition support) within the inpatient setting with a focus on respiratory, and lead on co-ordination of training at ward-level. There will be opportunities to see patients in the outpatient setting, and there will be a training element to support healthcare staff knowledge surrounding the importance of optimum nutrition to prevent/delay frailty and improve clinical outcomes.
Our department recognises the importance of work-life balance, and we actively support flexible working.
Transport links to Newcastle city centre via Metro. You are welcome to contact the Department for any further information.
The Department is friendly and supportive and encourages CPD, including regular clinical supervision and evidence-based practice groups. There will be training opportunities to enhance knowledge, skills, and leadership.
Main duties of the job
This role sits within the Dietetic acute team. A working week will typically include daily ward sessions with sporadic outpatient sessions, so you need to have an interest in working across these settings and good organisation skills to balance the workload. The Post will include training to healthcare staff on respiratory wards in tackling frailty at ward-level and will also lead on co-ordination of training within the Band 5 Dietetic workforce so they can deliver similar training across Inpatients. There will be training provided to ensure that you feel confident to carry out your clinical tasks independently as well as regular one-to-ones where developmental goals can be highlighted and supported.
The Nutrition and Dietetics Department has excellent working links with the wider MDT and we are looking for an applicant who is confident in communicating with a range of professionals and is forward-thinking.
Nutrition & Dietetics sit under the Therapies Directorate within Clinical Support. The Department operates Monday to Friday.
There will be an element of cross-site working; however, this Post will be based on Sunderland Royal Hospital site. To aid with cross-site working, there is a free shuttle bus between Sunderland Royal Hospital and South Tyneside District General; and both sites are close to Metro stops.
Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team, and with enteral feeding, is required to undertake this role.
