Barnet Children's Integrated Therapies have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated SLT, who is experienced in interdisciplinary working with children and young people in the community, to join a fixed term Project we are running with our Education partners at Barnet Council, from 1st January 2025 to 31st August 2025.
Following the success of the Project's first year, we are delighted that from January 2025 we will have an additional Band 7 role joining the team already in place focussed on supporting children and young people with SLCN through clinical review, stakeholder engagement and the delivery of a Targeted training programme for staff and parents. We would welcome applicants with suitable Band 6 experience on a Band 6/7 run-through.
The successful candidate will work in mainly secondary mainstream schools across Barnet although there is some flexibility to also work in primary schools to support children entering mainstream reception classes with special and complex needs that may include autism, learning difficulties and sensory differences. The secondary school role is related to reviewing and updating EHCPs as well as designing and delivering Targeted support for parents and staff.
Main duties of the job
1. Working closely with Barnet Education's Specialist Inclusion Service to train and support the implementation of Speech and Language Therapy advice and strategies into the mainstream schools core offer.
2. To maintain a clinical caseload of children and young people with EHCPs in mainstream schools, who have special and complex needs that may include autism, learning difficulties and sensory impairments.
3. To be responsible for the assessment of young people in Key Stage 2, Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with a range of speech, language and communication needs and the provision of advice for them, their families and the staff working with them.
4. To provide training and support for new Additionally Resourced Provisions in mainstream schools and establish targeted training programs for all ARPs across Barnet.
5. To review support for YP in their post 16 settings.
6. To develop effective and evidence-based intervention.
7. To work as an autonomous practitioner within a supportive team and be innovative in the development of new training offers to schools to meet speech, language and communication needs.
The post holder will work in the multidisciplinary and multi-agency environment including working with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, specialist teachers, social workers, therapy assistants, educational psychologists, paediatricians, and other professionals.
The post holder will be involved in developing and delivering training for school staff and parents.

Key Responsibilities:
1. To work in a collaborative manner with Barnet Education's Specialist Inclusion Service and other agencies to train parents and school staff to support the implementation of Speech and Language Therapy advice and strategies into the mainstream schools.
2. To manage a specific caseload under the umbrella of universal, targeted or specialist intervention and be responsible for organising and prioritising a varied workload in line with the agreed Trust Priorities, policies and procedures.
3. To carry out and record comprehensive assessments, using standardised assessments where clinically appropriate and possible.
4. To initiate and follow through training, treatment plans and provision of services, which will foster independence and/or optimise levels of functioning, and holistic needs.
5. To have working knowledge and ability to operate relevant IT systems, spreadsheets, Microsoft Word and outlook email.
6. To liaise with other therapy teams, disciplines and non-statutory organisations to ensure optimum intervention outcomes.
7. Offer expert support and advice to parents/carers in relation to therapy intervention and management of disability at home, school and in the local community.
8. Accept responsibility for clients while under the care of therapy staff, safeguarding both the welfare of clients and staff.
9. Contribute to and participate in in-service training programmes, professional talks, lectures and working.

Qualifications
Essential
* Degree or equivalent and Licence to Practice.
* Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Current registered membership of HCPC.
* Further study to master's or equivalent level in clinical field, including completion of short courses and additional study including relevant post graduate training.
