Job Title:
Occupational Hygiene Technician
Description & Background:
We're seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Occupational Hygiene Technician to join our team at Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Plant. This vital role involves implementing monitoring programs and maintaining compliance with environmental and health standards on the UK's largest construction site. You'll be responsible for providing hands-on technical assistance to the EHS Team, ensuring the site operates safely, sustainably, and efficiently while serving as the primary point of contact for contractors regarding occupational health and environmental concerns.
Responsibilities:
Perform occupational and environmental monitoring including air quality, noise, vibration, and dust sampling
Set up, calibrate, and maintain monitoring equipment for accurate data collection
Assist in conducting weld fume monitoring and implementing control measures
Support COSHH compliance by assessing and monitoring hazardous substances
Conduct routine inspections to verify adherence to site standards
Provide technical support for exposure control strategies and PPE/RPE implementation
Collect and analyse data to identify trends and generate detailed management reports
Support delivery of toolbox talks and training sessions
Assist in incident investigations and root cause analysis
Maintain accurate records of monitoring activities and inspections
Collaborate with contractors and project teams to maintain high standards
Spend 80% of time on-site engaging with contractors and teams
Experience Required:
STEM or related qualification (Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or Engineering)
Experience in environmental or occupational health monitoring
Familiarity with COSHH and UK health/environmental regulations
Strong technical aptitude with monitoring equipment
Good analytical skills for data interpretation and report writing
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
Proven time management abilities
Experience in construction environments
Desirable Qualifications:
Occupational Health M500 series modules
Previous experience in large-scale construction projects
Training delivery experience
Data analysis and reporting expertise
Experience with environmental management systems
