Overview
The Diagnostic Cardiology group in Edinburgh are responsible to deliver new products, and updates to existing products, across a portfolio of electronic medical devices, application software and associated accessories.
The Senior Development Engineer position is a challenging role, with requirements to contribute fully to all aspects of development on existing and new ranges of medical equipment, while working to tight commercial schedules and with minimal supervision. The Senior Development Engineer will be expected to take a leading role within project teams, supporting both project managers and more junior engineers. While an interest in medical devices would be advantageous, a background in embedded software and electronics is of more importance.
Responsibilities
1. Coaching and mentoring other engineers
2. Supporting functional and project managers with planning of activities and reporting on progress
3. Embedded firmware design and programming using C
4. Low Power electronics design for new and existing medical devices
Also including:
5. Microcontrollers
6. Standard and programmable logic
7. Digital and Analogue circuits
8. Generating design documentation
9. Work as part of the hardware team to implement product development plans.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
10. Degree qualified with at least 5 years’ experience in a product design environment
11. A demonstrated ability to communicate and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
12. Microprocessor firmware development experience for low power devices
13. A firm analytical and practical understanding of fundamental electronic theory.
14. Experience in both analogue and digital design through full product lifecycles
15. A high degree of self-motivation together with an eye for detail and the ability to investigate technical concepts and problems in depth.
EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING WOULD ALSO BE BENEFICIAL:
16. Design and implementation of digital filters
17. Interfacing with other devices via Bluetooth and USB
18. Development of test harness and tools using C# / .NET
19. Use of circuit simulation packages
20. Schematic capture and PCB design for small form-factor products.
21. ISO or similar quality systems
22. IEC family / IEC standards
23. Previous work with medical devices
