We require a proactive and hardworking staff member to work as part of a team in a production line environment within Linen Services.
To be part of a dedicated and highly motivated team of staff undertaking a number of different tasks which include the handling of soiled linen, the decontamination of linen in accordance with HTM01-04, folding and packing of clean linen either manually or utilizing equipment, and working in various locations within the laundry to ensure a high-quality service is delivered to meet the needs of the service users.
The post holder will be based at either the City or QMC Campus as required in accordance with the needs of the service.
Hours of work are 37.5 per week, working between the hours of 6am and 7.45pm Monday to Friday, including bank holidays. Some weekend working may be required.
Responsibilities include:
1. Ensuring that all soiled linen is stored in appropriate areas and within Health and Safety guidelines.
2. Maintaining quality of work in accordance with the documented procedures - undertaking quality checks on linen.
3. Able to make straightforward judgments, investigate problems, e.g. fault finding, stock issues, staff cover.
4. Performing laundry duties including packing of clean linen, sorting of soiled linen, programming/emptying of washers and dryers.
5. Carrying out checks of stock levels on wards and departments using electronic devices and adjusting delivery levels accordingly.
6. Recording daily issues to wards and departments using the Benchmarker software.
7. Working with a flexible approach bearing in mind the needs of the service and staff.
8. Ensuring that a clean protective uniform is worn at all times when on duty and using relevant Personal Protection Equipment in accordance with the policies provided by the Trust.
9. Reporting any signs of infestation to the Linen Services Team Leader.
10. Being involved in development training by acting as a buddy to new starters by demonstrating own duties.
11. Completing timesheets or similar records.
12. Undertaking cleaning audits and surveys as necessary to own work.
13. Demonstrating own activities to new or less experienced employees – supporting induction of new starters.
Applicants must be physically fit and able to carry heavy loads. The role requires you to be active for prolonged periods of time, including the handling of soiled linen and the processing, folding, and packing of clean linen to ensure a high-quality service is delivered to meet the needs of the service users.
To ensure the correct use of equipment following safety guidelines and to report faulty equipment to the Linen Service Team Leader.
The post holder will communicate verbally and face-to-face with members of staff throughout the Trust, patients, relatives, and the general public.
Disposal of sharps is determined by the Waste Handling and Management policy, and accidents must be reported to the Linen Service Team Leader.
