The Vacancy
Liberty Speciality Steels have exciting opportunities for experienced Mechanical Technicians, reporting to the Team Leader/Shift Engineer. You will deliver and follow routine planned maintenance schedules, report duties, and respond to breakdowns while maintaining health and safety standards in a team environment.

The jobholder is required to fully engage in the activities of a multi-disciplined team within the engineering function, ensuring that plant operational targets, product quality, customer service, and health & safety standards are met in line with maintenance execution and development objectives.
The Role of the Mechanical Technician
* Undertake the manufacturing process within the team area of responsibility to ensure departmental objectives and targets are achieved.
* Ensure high standards of health & safety and continuously improve safety standards and practices.
* Undertake designated responsibilities under statutory regulations.
* Develop and initiate process improvements within the team.
* Work as part of a team.
* Ensure team resources are effectively deployed and work is carried out efficiently to set safety standards.
* Assess self-performance and develop, implement, and review appropriate training plans.
* Ensure effective communication within the team and between other teams.
* Serve as the first point of contact for individual team members’ problems and queries, resolving issues to ensure smooth team operation.
Requirements of the Mechanical Technician
Essential Requirements
* Recognised Mechanical apprenticeship (HNC/ONC level or equivalent)
* Previous experience of PPM and reporting of PPM activities and breakdowns
* Previous experience in mechanical maintenance of handling equipment, pumps, and pipework systems
* Previous experience in maintenance of gearboxes and coupling systems
* Good understanding of Health Safety Legislation with experience adhering to SWP’s, risk assessments, procedures, and permit systems
Desirable Requirements
* Fully conversant with mechanical aspects of a rolling mill and associated plant and equipment.
* Mechanical experience in heavy manufacturing industry and use of mechanical equipment, specialist tools, and lifting equipment.
* Basic hydraulic, welding, and pipefitting skills.
* Good problem-solving awareness with the ability to fault-find pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
* Experience of crane maintenance.
* Experience of working in confined spaces and at heights.
The Working Pattern
* This is a day shift role 8 am - 4 pm including weekends.
