Are you a Registered Podiatrist looking for your next role? This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, flexible & highly motivated Community Podiatrist Band 6 to join our Barnsley Podiatry & Foot Protection Service.
You will have experience & knowledge of a broad range of Podiatric practice together with a desire to learn & develop your skills further.
Your role will be to assess patients' Podiatric needs & provide a high standard Podiatry service based on evidence-based practice.
You will be working within a multidisciplinary team & as an autonomous practitioner.
There are opportunities to work alongside our diabetes team lead & wound care specialist, undertaking specialist podiatry clinics including nail surgery, biomechanics/lower limb assessment clinics & wound care/diabetic clinics.
It is essential that you have the ability to work flexibly as we operate in community clinics & domiciliary settings; car driver & ability to travel is essential.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will:
1. Work as an autonomous practitioner & as part of the wider team to manage a clinical caseload.
2. Provide comprehensive care undertaking assessment & treatment of patients who often have complex &/or chronic presentations, including active wounds.
3. Take a proactive role in order to determine diagnosis, prognosis & optimal podiatric management for new & established patients.
4. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team & act as a source of advice to patients, carers, GPs & other health care professionals.

Job responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY:
To act as lead podiatrist within a specified locality of the Trust, in the assessment, diagnosis and care-plan management of podiatric foot and lower limb pathologies, predominantly with high-risk podiatric needs, musculoskeletal pathologies and those targeted in the national service frameworks.
Working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to confidently deliver sustained, quality care. Responsible for acting as a source of specialist advice, support and education on lower limb complications, to all professions, patients and carers to promote health and social wellbeing.
To assist the Professional Lead Podiatrist in planning, developing and implementing podiatry care strategies in line with national and local targets and guidelines.
To formulate and implement policies within the Podiatry Department pertinent to clinical, non-clinical and locally based issues.
KEY RESULT AREAS:
1. To be responsible for the supervision of basic grade podiatrists working within their locality.
2. Provide professional support to podiatry Assistants and Technical instructors.
3. Provide professional support and supervision to podiatry students.
4. Responsible for the management of their own and junior staff clinical and domiciliary caseloads.
5. Responsible for the rotation, monitoring and ordering of stock levels at the post holder's designated clinic(s) and/or for the post holder's and juniors' staff caseloads.
6. To provide a professional, quality podiatry service, meeting the needs of the patients deemed high risk or with musculoskeletal pathologies in the community. Working in a variety of settings and conditions, including domiciliary visits.
7. To plan, organise, co-ordinate and undertake individual work and caseloads according to priority and demand, both clinically and non-clinically.
8. To assess, analyse, investigate and manage clinical conditions of the at-risk lower limb with systemic complications such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and peripheral vascular disease.
9. To assess and carry out treatment, using local anaesthesia, on patients in need of elective nail surgery.
10. To autonomously interpret information gained from clinical and social findings to plan, develop care plans and provide packages of care for patients, carers and other health professionals, that incorporate risk assessment and discharge.
11. To work within a primary care podiatric team to give podiatric advice on diagnosis, treatment, packages of care of high risk patients, for other health care professionals to consult and/or influence onward referral and care.
12. To provide an immediate duty of care to patients in need of emergency podiatry care.
13. To cover for staff absence, annual leave and vacancies at short notice outside normal working hours.
14. To refer patients with a treatment plan to foot-care providers where appropriate and provide supervision of those staff where required.
15. To participate in the organization of clinical and observational placements for student podiatrists and other health care professionals and to mentor podiatry students and other health professionals.
16. To clinically assess students on placement in order to determine their success or failure of this part of the module which will go towards their final examinations.
17. To work as a multidisciplinary team member, which would involve both primary and secondary care providers.
18. To provide support and leadership to peers in the Trust in the care of high risk patients and those with musculoskeletal pathologies.
19. To advise upon, participate in and audit the development and implementation of standards, guidelines, policies and protocols for the podiatry department.
20. To participate in regular surveys and occasional clinical trials and in the development of outcomes and re-audit, including modernisation and different ways of working.
21. To represent the department in local meetings, within the Trust and to regularly update the Podiatry Manager / Professional lead on all aspects of care provision to their designated primary care population.
22. When requested provide the Podiatry Manager/ Professional lead with detailed information, within their specified locality, on any aspects of planning, development or modernisation of service specific to that locality.
23. To ensure personal, continuous professional development is maintained in the field of high risk podiatric care, and/or regarding patients highlighted in the national service frameworks.
24. To develop and participate in post graduate in-service training for all professional staff working in the department to Health Care Profession Council (HCPC) requirements.
25. To observe and adhere to Trust standards, policies and procedures, health and safety regulations (including COSHH), sterile procedures and data protection act 1984.
