The role
As Systems Engineer you will coordinate and execute the technical integration of electronic equipment and systems into SEA-KIT’s newly-built uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). You will work with cross-functional teams developing, fitting, integrating and testing systems to deliver high-performing, technically reliable USVs.
SEA-KIT’s head office and manufacturing yard is based in Tollesbury, Essex.
Responsibilities
1. Integrate scientific and electronic equipment into SEA-KIT vessels across various build projects.
2. Coordinate the execution of multiple USV projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to project timelines and budgets.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software development, hardware engineering and testing, to achieve project milestones.
4. Act as Technical Author for onboard equipment documentation, generating comprehensive technical documentation covering vessel procedures, layout, equipment usage and operator guidance.
5. Establish and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes for USV development, including comprehensive testing protocols and validation procedures with the testing team.
6. Ensure compliance with safety and performance standards for all vessels within the relevant department parameters.
7. Keep up to date with the latest advancements in autonomous vessel technology and identify opportunities for innovation within the USV domain.
8. Provide support to on-site engineers and end users/customers including troubleshooting system problems and providing technical support.
9. Support the recruitment, training and mentoring of a proficient technical team to meet business objectives.
10. Offer innovation support to new projects and internal global systems developed by SEA-KIT.
11. Occasionally participate in commissioning sea trials at client bases in the UK and worldwide.
12. Help foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the department.
Who we’re looking for
You have good general engineering and electrical skills developed through relevant industry experience. You have hands-on experience installing, configuring and maintaining basic IT systems, and a working knowledge and understanding of communications protocols including RS232/422, NMEA, CAN bus and J1939. You also have an understanding of Satcom, Iridium, LTE, RF/Wifi communications systems. CAD design and drawing are highly desirable.
You have a strong interest in marine systems and unmanned vehicles, excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively in a team. You may be on call outside office hours, and need to be flexible in case of major technical problems occurring. Hybrid work option is available.
