Advert Social Work Assistant (13/903) Dumfries and Galloway £31,215 - £33,300 An exciting position has arisen for a Social Work Assistant in the Sensory Support Team. You will work with Children and Adults alongside three Rehabilitation Officers and two Social Work Assistants. The post will cover the region of Dumfries and Galloway (mainly Dumfries and East of the region). You will assess people who are deaf or deafblind and provide advice and equipment to promote and support independence, safety and quality of life. You will contribute to working towards the recommendations of the See Hear Strategy and to developing Sensory Support services. You will have experience of supporting people with sensory loss and an awareness of the See Hear Strategy. Familiarity with BSL and Assistive Technology would be an advantage. You will have experience of working in partnership with health, education, the third and voluntary sector and carers. Excellent communication skills and the ability to take a flexible and creative approach to assessments as well as being able to balance a wide range of priorities whilst keeping focused on your objectives are essential. Experience in delivering training is an advantage. You will also be expected to hold a caseload. This post offers the opportunity to further develop skills and knowledge in the field of hearing and sight loss and opportunities to develop your learning. This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
