University Sussex Hospital NHS Trust provides General Hospital Services to Brighton and Hove, the West of East Sussex and Mid Sussex and more specialised tertiary services across the south east of England.

Main duties of the job
To provide a high quality, prompt and efficient Porter service to patients, staff and visitors and to undertake the movement of patients, equipment, documentation, food etc. in an efficient and safe manner.
Maintain clean and safe equipment and environment in accordance with the Porter SLA (Service Level Agreement), be responsive to service needs as they arise and constantly seek to improve the productivity and quality of the service.
Ensure personal conduct is of the highest standard at all times while on the hospital premises, exhibiting courtesy and efficiency to patients, visitors and users of the service at all times.
All work must be undertaken in line with health, safety, security and Trust policies and procedures including infection control. When required, you may need to assist with the emergency and evacuation procedures e.g., major incidents/alerts systems, bomb alerts and fire procedures in accordance with Trust policy.
The post holder will need to be fully aware of the Trust's Values and Behaviours initiative and act accordingly.

Job responsibilities
Successful candidates will be reliable, flexible, and good team players who possess good interpersonal and communication skills. Each will have a proven track record of delivering high quality Portering services and be able to exhibit courtesy and efficiency to patients, visitors and users at all times.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. The conveyance of patients by wheelchair, trolley, stretcher, bed, or any other means necessary, including some escort duties in a safe and appropriate manner.
2. The collection and delivery of furniture, air and foam mattresses, linen, medical records, patient notes, x-rays, pharmacy boxes, specimens, blood products, post, clinical and non-clinical waste, medical equipment and supplies, food and any other items, using appropriate methods of work as directed.
3. The identification and movement of medical gases as necessary including the maintenance of medical gas banks ensuring adherence to strict regulations governing the handling of medical gases.
4. Collection and delivery of deceased patients to the mortuary in a dignified manner using appropriate means of transport.
5. Providing a certificate of competence has been obtained from the Trust, use the designated biometric blood tracking system ensuring the blood products are transported in the correct manner.
6. Attend medical emergencies including cardiac arrests with the resus trolley / bag.
7. Assist patients to be pat slid across from trolleys to the bed with assistance from the nursing staff.
