The Lead Control & Protection Software Engineer will be part of a highly motivated dynamic team of engineers working on design, development, and maintenance of control and protection system application software for LCC and VSC HVDC schemes following full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle).
Job Description
Summary:
* As a Lead Engineer, you will report within the Product Care Department.
* The successful candidate will be part of a highly motivated, dynamic, and growing team of engineers working on the design of HVDC Control Systems.
* This is a very exciting and dynamic field of control engineering in which GE's leading contribution has worldwide recognition.
* The Product Care function maintains Control and Protection application software, platform, valve electronics, handling obsolescence and implementing a life cycle process for the parts included, including what and when to communicate to customers, internal as well as external.
Responsibilities:
* Responsible for overall requirements, design, implementation, and testing of HVDC Control and Protection application software.
* Work as part of an expert team, giving ample opportunity for learning design and development skills highly relevant for working with any control and protection system; in particular, power electronics systems and grid technology.
* Execute the analysis, simulation, test, and integration required to define, and support assigned components, modules, or systems that meet business standards.
* Apply prior experience and on-the-job training to solve problems.
* Propose solutions utilizing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline, analytical thinking, and technical experience in solving problems.
* Coach and mentor team members with less experience, lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.
* Develop skills within the team and manage performance.
* Lead and actively participate in continuous improvement activities.
* Responsible for operational planning/execution within a technical discipline.
Qualifications / Essential Requirements:
* Engineering degree in Computer Science or power systems and power electronics subjects or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
* Lead design and development of event and rate-driven application software for control and protection systems.
* Competent on functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems.
* Knowledge of PSCAD and competent using MATLAB-SIMULINK simulation tools.
* Promote Agile Software development practices within the team.
* Lead team members on Git, Jira, and Confluence for version control, task/defect management, and documentation.
* Strong written/verbal communication skills and can-do attitude.
Desired characteristics:
* Process improvement or RCA experience or certification.
* Experience working in HVDC industry.
* Knowledge of HVDC Control, Protection, and Sequencing strategy.
