Post available: Part-Time Support Worker (27.5 hours every four weeks, including two sleep in duties), plus cover for annual leave and sickness

About the Role
This part-time role is to join an established team of 24/7 support workers assisting our client to live as independently as possible in his own pet-free bungalow, and in the community.
He’s a male in his early 30s with an acquired brain injury, physical difficulties, and visual impairment. He can be shy at first, but once he gets to know you he has a great sense of humour, is a caring person and likes to have fun. He enjoys being active too, going to cafes and to pubs, and taking part in exercise and sport – including hydroswimming, Boccia, and playing pool.
You’ll be required to provide all personal care and to carry out domestic duties like some cooking and cleaning.
It is vital that you are a confident driver of both manual and automatic vehicles, with a full driving license. This is needed for driving our client in his own large van on short local journeys, and sometimes further afield for excursions and holidays.
Job Description/ Specifications
1. To work with our client, a man who has a brain injury, in his own home and in the community.
2. To enable him to participate in recreational and leisure activities at home and in the community - such as attending hydro, playing pool, and going to cafes and pubs.
3. To work alongside him with some household tasks, like washing, ironing, cooking, and keeping his home clean.
4. To carry out light domestic duties in his home as appropriate, such as vacuuming, washing, and ironing.
5. To act as a driver, using his vehicle mainly locally, and further afield if needed.
6. To provide daytime, evening and overnight support on a weekend within a 24-hour support package.
7. To have availability enough to offer occasional cover for staff holidays and sickness – which may include weekdays.
8. To aid and support the client as directed by the Case Manager/Team Leader.
9. To follow an agreed approach, and use strategies documented in the support plan, working in collaboration with the client’s family, case manager, team leader and any other professionals when required.
10. To undertake training and supervision as agreed by the Case Manager.
11. To ensure client confidentiality in all matters relating to the client.
12. To provide assistance and support as directed by the Case Manager/Team Leader, and to be responsible to the client via the Case Manager/Team Leader.
13. Any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client and Case Manager.
14. To provide daily ongoing support to undertake personal care and domestic activities.
15. To accompany the client on holidays and weekends away when required.
About You
Essential Qualifications/Experience
* You must be able to read information contained in reports, and also present information clearly and accurately when communicating with the team via emails and reports.
* You must have the ability to work on your own unsupervised, or as part of a team.
* You must have a full UK driving licence and be a confident driver of manual/automatic vehicles.
* You must be prepared to have business class insurance on your own vehicle if you have the use of one for work.
* You must be prepared to provide personal care.
* You should have a knowledge or level of understanding around Brain Injury.
* You must be physically fit enough to Move and Handle our client.
Desirable experience
* We prefer you to have experience of working in a community setting or people’s own homes.
Desirable Skills and Aptitudes
1. You should have a non – judgmental approach with the ability to see things from other peoples’ perspectives, and be respectful of their lifestyle choices.
2. A calm communication style with clear pronunciation when speaking.
3. An understanding of the ‘enabling approach’ and the ability to judge when direction needs to be offered to the client.
4. A sense of humour is vital, along with an understanding of appropriate boundaries, with a mature, confident, and professional approach.
5. To be able to integrate an understanding of brain injury - displaying empathy but with a non-patronising approach.
6. The ability to follow the support plan, the case manager/team leader and guidance, and to accept feedback.
7. To display an understanding that the workplace is also the client’s home.
8. Have flexibility and a willingness to step in and help the client and family when the situation demands it.
9. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a variety of people involved with the client.
10. To be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised with the client.
11. Be conscientious, have good timekeeping and good record keeping, using paper documentation and/or a laptop.
12. Ability to identify and manage potential risks, to safeguard the client.
13. The ability to use initiative and adapt to different situations, plus learn new skills.
Pay and Conditions
* You will be employed by the client via their Deputy.
* You will be line managed by the Team Leader on a day-to-day basis and overall by the Case Manager on behalf of the Deputy.
* The contract allows for 5.6 weeks paid leave and two weeks (paid) sick leave.
* You will receive initial and ongoing training, plus regular supervision from the Team leader and Case Manager.
* Rates of pay: £12.00 p/h weekday hours, £13.00 p/h weekend hours, £9.50 p/h sleep in shift, and double time per hour on bank holidays.
