At Forterra, you will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday At Make UK, your training hours will be Monday 10:00am to 6:30pm, Tuesday - Thursday, 8.00am - 4:30pm and Friday, 8.00am - 12:30pm.

The Apprentice Engineer will be responsible for developing skills in the maintenance, and optimisation of systems that combine mechanical and electrical engineering. Through hands-on training and mentorship, the apprentice will learn to support the:
* Development
* Installation
* Maintenance
of automated systems, robotics, and/or machinery while ensuring operational efficiency and safety.
The Apprentice Engineer will be expected to work towards and complete the apprenticeship program with a focus on self-development, progression, and ownership. At the end of the program, they should aim to be a competent maintenance engineer and be able to work well as a key part of a shift team or alone on a multitude of equipment with minimal extra support.

This apprenticeship includes spending 30 weeks in Birmingham in Year 1, on a residential basis, where the travel to Birmingham, accommodation on a half board basis (including breakfast and evening meal) and travel to and from the training facility is paid for by Forterra.
In years 2 and 3, you will attend Make UK on block release, 1 week in every 5, again staying in the hotel and paid for by Forterra.

Together with invaluable commercial and practical experience, you’ll work towards several academic and vocational qualifications throughout your time with us, which are fully paid for, including:
* Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Foundation Competence – in year 1, in 6 week blocks to include 4 weeks at Make UK and 2 weeks in company
* Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Competence - in years 2 to 4 in company
* Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) - in Years 2 & 3 on block release to Make UK
* In college qualifications according to employer requirements
* In house training in line with your requirements.
On completion of your studies, you will achieve your full apprenticeship certification that will prove competence as a Level 3 Engineering Technician.
