Role description: Working within our established Energy Networks and Renewable team, you will be responsible for undertaking earthing design studies and measurements ensuring the compliance and safety of substation operatives. You will also be involved in completing Electric and magnetic field (EMF) calculations, Electromagnetic Interference studies, and lightning protection. Reporting to an Associate Technical Director, you will be responsible the delivery of project-related tasks to meet budget and contributing towards the achievement of the divisional business plan. As part of your role, you will be responsible for conducting risk analysis of the plan and identify potential threats and risks. Using your expertise in Electrical Earthing you will make recommendations on potential mitigation for any issues identified, or work with stakeholders to agree actions. The role requires a certain level of flexibility to visit site locations across the UK. Role accountabilities: Provide specialist earthing design engineering and solutions for clients using the CDEGS software suite. Earthing system measurements of substations up to 400 kV AC, HVDC system, and other EHV AC installations including overhead line towers, cable sealing ends compounds, and cable joint bays. Electric and magnetic field (EMF) calculations for EHV substation, cables, and overhead lines. Lightning protection system design. Electromagnetic Interference studies and mitigation design. Project management of multiple earthing design projects to ensure they remain within budget and timescale constraints. Work in collaboration with the Arcadis substation detailed design team to ensure the integrity of the overall design. Lead the creation of competitive proposals/quotations for new packages of work. Provide leadership and technical advice to junior project team members to support them in their delivery of the project and in their professional development. Qualifications & Experience: Have a BSc/BEng/ BEng (Hons) or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent or working towards this. Have previous relevant experience including supervision of elements of large, complex projects. Working knowledge of earthing system measurements. Substantial experience in earthing system analysis using the software package CDEGS. Suitable experience of earthing issues and standards associated with power networks up to 400 kV. Ability to communicate complex technical or commercial issues to peers or senior managers. Ability to develop working relationships quickly and effectively. Experience in writing clear and concise documentation. Flexibility to travel both in the UK and overseas. Why Arcadis?
