Fareham and Gosport is a diverse area with a vibrant community. Due to a promotion, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join our local Older Peoples Community Mental Health Team. The post involves working in both Fareham and Gosport providing skilled assessment & treatment interventions to older people with mental health problems. The post is based across the area.
To be a successful applicant you will need to be a registered Occupational Therapist with experience in the care of older people with mental health problems. You must have a genuine interest in working with older people and be able to demonstrate a real commitment to providing high quality and compassionate care to patients and their families. You will play an important role within our therapy team as we aspire to provide excellent patient care and develop our services in line with national and local drivers.
There is a strong multidisciplinary focus within the teams and you will be integral to the implementation of programmes of care and evaluating and communicating effectively with other parts of the service. You will also be expected to provide supervision to junior members of the team and mentorship responsibility to support student nurse learning. A full driving license is required.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) will work as a core member of the Community Older Peoples Mental Health team.
The OT will primarily be responsible for the management of the Occupational Therapy input for patients currently being seen by the Community Older Peoples Mental Health Service. This includes the management of occupational therapy referrals, undertaking of occupational therapy initial assessments, identifying occupational therapy needs and providing appropriate intervention.
The OT will be required to formulate care and risk management plans in accordance with identified need and ensure that these are recovery focused and developed in collaboration with the patient and where appropriate with their relative and carer.
The OT will hold their own caseload.
The OT will provide supervision and support to another occupational therapy staff member.
The OT will co-ordinate the provision of a Carers Support Group (Carers of patients currently being seen by the OPMH Service).
The OT may in future be required to act as a duty worker on an occasional basis, a role shared with the Community Mental Health Nurses.
The OT will work under the supervision of the OPMH Team Lead who will provide support and management supervision.
The OT will access clinical supervision from a B7 Occupational Therapist based in a separate Older Peoples Mental Health team.
