Advanced Practice Physiotherapist - Haemophilia

There is an opportunity to join our team as an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist in the sub-specialism of Haemophilia, in collaboration with Advance Practice and Consultant colleagues.
The haemophilia physiotherapists are responsible for the provision of specialist clinical assessment and treatment of adult and paediatric patients with haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders registered at Kent Haemophilia Centre.
Kent Haemophilia Centre is recognised by the Department of Health as a Comprehensive Care Centre and covers a wide geographical area, including Kent and parts of East Sussex.
All patients with haemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders have access to physiotherapy including: walk-in triage service for musculoskeletal (MSK) care for assessment and treatment of new bleeds or MSK problems; regular Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT) clinic review with consultants, physiotherapists and nurses for adult and paediatric patients.
The physiotherapists contribute to and lead on research projects and national research trials in the field. They offer extended scope skills including performing point-of-care ultrasound and are members of the Haemophilia Chartered Physiotherapists' Association (HCPA).
Main duties of the job
To deliver a high quality, patient centred and sustainable Musculoskeletal Service for the Children and Adults with Haemophilia of East Kent that is efficient; and clinically and cost effective.
To facilitate the development and expansion of Musculoskeletal Therapy services within EKHUFT.
To act as a resource to provide expert professional opinion to Therapy staff, Medical staff and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team within EKHUFT and the wider health economy.
To be a senior leader and part of the Haemophilia MDT team.
By way of Outpatient Musculoskeletal/Orthopaedic Clinics, provide an advanced level of practice in assessment, diagnosis, treatment and referral.
To be a professional leader and a role model for excellence in Paediatric Musculoskeletal care across East Kent.

Role specific duties

* To contribute to the development of Therapy services within EKHUFT for adult and paediatric haemophilia and associated bleeding disorders.
* To act as a resource to provide expert professional opinion to Therapy staff, Medical staff and other members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team within EKHUFT and the wider health economy.

Organisational
* Contribute to the recruitment and selection of Therapy staff to the Musculoskeletal Service.
* Participate in the strategic service development of the Musculoskeletal Therapy Service and specifically the Haemophilia service and the business planning process.
* Collaborate effectively with other EKHUFT Departments and Care Groups.
* Implement initiatives to ensure sustainability of the Haemophilia Therapy Service.
* Participate in the staff appraisal scheme and manage performance where necessary.
* Contribute to the trust wide vision for Haemophilia Outpatient Musculoskeletal Services.
* Offer sustainable care which is efficient and cost effective.
Clinical
* To perform independent triage of Musculoskeletal referrals to Secondary care from Primary care, Tertiary centres and from within EKHUFT in order to establish an appropriate care pathway for Haemophilia patients including being first point of contact for Haemophilia patients.
* Communicate effectively to a high level, using different methods and models of communication to optimise interactions in complex situations.
* Conduct complex assessments to enable differential diagnosis and to explore the impact of the condition on the patients general health, mental well-being, work/school attendance and functional and meaningful activities including physical activity.
* Request and interpret relevant investigations within scope of practice.
* Make use of appropriate measurements to enable monitoring of progress.
* Clinically reason to a very high level, using expert knowledge of Haemophilia and associated therapy interventions, critical and analytical awareness of current evidence, theory, principles and systems.
* Identify issues that are beyond scope of practice and that require onwards referral.
* Implement evidence-based treatment / management / rehabilitation strategies to a high level of capability and modify these to achieve optimal outcomes.
* Promote health and well-being including provision of information and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
* Facilitate the learning and shared decision making of service users in relation to optimising their own wellbeing.
* To work effectively within the Haemophilia Multidisciplinary Team.
