Job Description:
As a Service Engineer / Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for commissioning, testing, and fault-finding hardware and software in control systems. You will initially work alongside an experienced engineer to develop skills and collaborate with electricians, project managers, design engineers, and clients to ensure successful system implementation and operation.
Key Responsibilities:
Commissioning and testing control system hardware and software
Diagnosing and resolving faults in automation and control systems
Collaborating with electricians, engineers, and project managers
Ensuring projects meet technical and safety standards
Providing technical support and troubleshooting assistance
Traveling to project sites, including locations outside the local area
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Electrical engineering apprenticeship (preferred)
Experience: Some experience with automation, industrial networks, PLCs, HMIs, and reading electrical schematics
Skills:
Good communication and basic IT skills
Strong problem-solving abilities
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Personal Attributes:
Strong work ethic and self-discipline
Reliable and committed to a career in engineering
Inquisitive mindset with a willingness to learn
Working Conditions:
Hours: Monday to Friday, flexible 8-hour shifts
Overtime: Paid overtime expected when project demands require
Salary: £35,000 £45,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Between Bedford and Solihull or Between Bedford and Thurrock (travel required for some projects)
Training & Career Progression:
On-the-job training provided
Formal training courses available after the probationary period
Opportunities to progress to developing and implementing PLC control logic and automation strategies
Additional Information:
Candidates must have their own transport and be prepared to travel for projects
