Monday to Friday covering the Exeter and Crediton areas.

We are proud to be working exclusively with an independent merchant in the South of England, operating through five core divisions (Build, Timber, Plumbing & Heating, Roofing and Electrical), primarily serving trade customers with an extensive range of products with over 150 sites across the South of the UK.
What is the purpose of the Sales Rep?
The purpose of this role is to boost sales and profits by building great relationships with customers, keeping in touch regularly, and working with awesome manufacturers to unlock new opportunities. You will also team up with the branch management to hit goals and ensure everything runs smoothly, all while keeping things fun and professional.
What are the responsibilities of the Sales Rep?
1. Sales and Customer Service
1. Serve customers with a smile, ensuring they leave satisfied and happy.
2. Handle calls professionally, returning missed ones quickly and using voicemail smartly.
3. Offer helpful product advice and support your colleagues with your expertise.
4. Boost sales by linking products and utilizing your best sales skills.
5. Drive sales forward with techniques like following up on quotes, promotional selling, and phone marketing.
6. Monitor customer special terms and ensure they are used effectively.
7. On-site? Be ready to secure orders at the best price for the company, while keeping costs in mind, and inform the branch of any pricing decisions.
8. Ensure your branch has all the info they need for accurate and timely quotes.
9. Collaborate with internal sales staff to expedite quotes and win orders, always aiming for the best margin. Return all inquiries within three days.
10. During site surveys, ensure customers approve details before placing orders (e.g., kitchen planning, joinery surveys, etc.).
11. Wherever possible, fulfill orders from branch stock to enhance efficiency.
12. Place special orders with preferred suppliers, negotiate the best price, and ensure all paperwork is accurate.
13. Work closely with your sales office to meet delivery expectations and keep customers informed of any delays or issues.
14. Track special orders to ensure timely delivery and promptly return any incorrect ones, considering any rehandling costs.
15. Double-check any goods being returned for a refund to ensure they are in good condition before processing.
16. Handle customer complaints quickly and thoroughly, asking for help from Management when needed.
17. Keep Branch Management informed about supply problems or customer dissatisfaction.
18. Manage customer credit limits and payments, working with Branch Management to balance sales opportunities and financial risk.
19. Maintain organized records for each customer to help unlock their full potential.
20. Seek new business to grow your customer base and meet your targets.
21. Stay updated on product technology and regulations to enhance customer service.
22. Keep a library of manufacturer literature and price lists.
23. Stay aware of competitors and customers to spot new sales opportunities and avoid threats.
24. Follow company procedures when handling payments and transactions.
25. When stepping into other departments, ensure you follow the correct processes.
26. And most importantly, make work enjoyable by supporting and appreciating your colleagues!
2. Health and Safety
1. Follow Health and Safety guidelines to keep yourself, your team, and customers safe.
2. Report any incidents that could lead to injury or damage to your Supervisor or Branch Management.
3. Use the right protective gear when required.
4. Handle and move products carefully to avoid accidents.
5. Keep your workspace clean and organized.
6. Speak up if you're unsure about any task and need guidance to do it safely.
7. Help investigate any accidents to prevent them from happening again.
3. General
1. Stay updated on product knowledge by attending supplier training and in-house sessions.
2. Always provide fast, friendly, and helpful service to customers.
3. Represent the company with a neat appearance and ensure your vehicle is tidy.
4. Be flexible with your schedule and open to reasonable overtime when needed.
5. Participate in all branch or department meetings.
6. Support stocktaking efforts and follow all procedures to keep things running smoothly.
7. Play a role in ensuring branch security and safety.
8. Assist with any other tasks that Management requests to keep the branch efficient and successful.
What Skills and Experience will you need as the Sales Rep?
1. Strong sales and negotiation skills, with a proven track record in the construction and building supply industry.
2. In-depth knowledge of building materials, tools, and their applications in construction projects.
3. Ability to build and maintain relationships with contractors, builders, and suppliers.
4. Excellent communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
5. Strong problem-solving abilities and organizational skills to manage multiple accounts and meet sales targets.
6. Proficiency in CRM software, inventory management systems, and Microsoft Office.
7. Experience in the construction or building supply industry.
8. Valid driver's license, with the willingness to travel and manage a sales territory.
9. Degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field (preferred), but relevant industry experience is highly valued.
10. Certification in sales or construction (optional, but a plus).
11. Customer service experience, with the ability to handle inquiries and complaints effectively.
12. Team player with good time management skills and the flexibility to travel as needed.
