Role Overview
The Group Financial Controller will be accountable for the integrity of the financial information throughout the Oak Furnitureland group through the improvement and maintenance of an effective control environment.
In this role you will work at the group's Swindon head office where the finance function and majority of the executive team are based. You will report directly to the CFO and be responsible for managing a team of 20, including the accounting function and the customer Finance team. The group consists of a UK-based trading entity and holding company, and subsidiary companies in Ireland, Hong Kong, Vietnam and China.
This role offers you a fantastic opportunity to work with a strong executive team and be directly responsible for creating a best-in-class financial control environment. The role will initially be hands-on but as the team and business grows it will become more supervisory and strategic.
About The Role
Core Responsibilities:
1. Work with the CFO to evolve the vision for Finance and deliver and lead a best-in-class accounts capability.
2. Ensure all financial transactions and commitments are properly authorised, recorded, filed and reported.
3. Produce and develop daily, weekly and monthly MI reporting, including management accounts, treasury, cashflow and forecasting. Ensure information for tax & statutory filings is readily available.
4. Deliver insightful variance analysis and commentary alongside this and confidently report financial information to board level.
5. Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that information produced integrates cleanly and efficiently into business planning and analysis.
6. Oversee and develop the financial systems to ensure it provides high quality information which properly addresses business & audit requirements.
7. Strengthen the overall control environment through process improvements, ensuring business engagement and buy-in.
8. Represent the finance function on business change projects.
9. Build strong relationships with external and internal stakeholders including the executive team, banks, lenders and auditors.
10. Bring energy, vision and leadership to the finance function which includes a broad range of experience and skills.
Skills and Experience:
1. Qualified accountant with experience of running a finance team and working in a large and complex environment.
2. Demonstrable experience of process implementation and improvement, with experience in upskilling and professionalising a finance function (including IT systems), in a fast-paced business.
3. Strong technical background, having dealt with challenging technical financial reporting and accounting issues.
