Permanent upon successful completion of a 6-month probation period The Biology IT team are currently providing interim IT support to Earth Sciences. They provide a wide range of computing and network support, delivering and supporting IT equipment, specialist software, services and networking supporting in support of the teaching and research activities of the Department. Reporting to the Biology IT Manager, you will help provide excellent support to academic, research, student and administrative users of IT. A key aspect of the role is staffing the service desk, our users’ primary point of contact with the IT Team, ensuring that through good communication, effective processes, procedures, and excellent documentation we help the Department get the best value from our IT. You will be primarily providing support to the staff, researchers and students in our buildings in the centre of Oxford. You will be responsible for providing first line support for the Department including working with IT hardware, software, telephone, audio-visual, computer and printer management and user accounts. You will also be responsible for implementing University IT policies and procedures, providing data by running ad hoc reports and planning and carrying out IT inductions for new staff. You will be flexible as required to undertake the role, including the scheduling and attendance of works outside normal working hours. About you You will have a strong customer service focus and a flexible ‘can do’ attitude. You will be educated to A level standard with GCSE Grade A-C level English and Maths, or equivalent. You will have experience of working in an IT team/IT role and up to date knowledge of core IT first line support basics. You will have an awareness of data protection and information security guidelines, and an ability to clearly and accurately communicate technical information to non-technical customers. A demonstrable ability to prioritise your own workload and produce accurate, detailed work within deadlines is essential, as well as an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
