Operations Manager
Shift pattern: 1pm to 10:30pm, Monday to Friday.
A quick look at the role:
To efficiently and effectively manage the day-to-day operations of the Depot, whilst delivering and maintaining first-class customer service against pre-defined business KPIs. This role will work alongside the Depot Manager to support the depot's operational, safety, and service performance.

* Provide leadership, give work instructions, and monitor the performance of the traffic dispatcher team, i.e., review of Depot KPIs - Service, Safety, and Profitability.
* Operationally manage the day-to-day shift operations at the depot, including driver supervision and ensuring vehicle availability through close working relationships with fleet management.
* Manage, motivate, train, and develop the team as required.
* Deal effectively with underperformance, implementing disciplinary procedures as appropriate.
* Absence management, e.g., conduct return-to-work interviews.
* Manage the planning process for the mobilization of new work and tactical re-routes, including seasonal challenges of Bank holidays and Christmas holidays, ensuring resources and routes are optimized according to customer needs.
* On a daily basis, ensure routing and service issues are dealt with and be ultimately responsible for the customer service experience. From time to time, conduct customer visits.
* Contribute toward ongoing cost control, actively seeking to improve efficiency, reduce operating costs, increase margin, and meet budget targets set.
* Ensure that all aspects of Health & Safety are adhered to, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near miss reporting, and emergency procedures.
* Deputize for the Depot Manager and carry out other reasonable tasks as the company may require from time to time.
Here’s what we require:
Education / Qualifications:
* CPC is desirable.
Experience:
* Experience as Transport Manager or a position of similar responsibility in Services or Logistics industry.
* People and health & safety management in a unionized environment.
* Proven track record of working to clearly defined service delivery KPIs.
* Demonstrable experience of successful resource management / cost control.
* Lean Management understanding.
* Experience with route planning software such as Route Monkey, DPS (LogiX), etc.
Technical Knowledge:
* Local geographical knowledge and transport legislation is desirable.
* Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of working within a time-critical service environment.
* Waste industry knowledge, including relevant laws, would be ideal.
