Vanrath are thrilled to be recruiting for a Band 7 Quality and Governance Officer on behalf of a large public sector company in Antrim on a temporary basis.

The post holder will be a specialist in quality and Governance. They will primarily be involved in audits, incident management, change control and data handling.
What you'll do
4. Work closely with Laboratory Manager, Quality Manager and Clinical Leads on day-to-day matters relating to all aspects of UKAS accreditation and patient and staff safety in the laboratory service, ensuring that relevant statutory accreditation standards, departmental and Trust policies are met.
5. Assist the Department in maintaining UKAS Accreditation and actively promote a Quality Laboratory Service to clinicians.
6. Ensure that the department maintains a regular Audit programme against ISO 15189:2022 standards, where audits will be largely based on risks identified and ensure that effective immediate and follow up actions are implemented from findings raised.
7. Actively partake in audits and, oversee and supervise staff participation in audits.
8. Monitor document owners review, update and amend all documents in accordance with agreed timescales.
9. Together with senior laboratory management, ensure follow up on external assessments and verify the completion of corrective action as required by the reports of assessors.
10. Assist by providing advice and guidance in the early detection and the prompt investigation of analytical problems and clinical incidents and record under Corrective / Preventative Actions (CAPA) - Q-Pulse.
11. Assist in the recording of serious and critical incidents using DATIX.
12. Assist in developing, managing and maintaining the risk register and risk management systems for the Cellular and Molecular Pathology Laboratory. Facilitate, participate in and assist with RCA investigations and service reviews as appropriate.
13. Participate in laboratory quality meetings, decision making and policy implementation.
14. Liaise and assist senior laboratory managers with service complaints and incidents and ensure that effective immediate and follow up actions are taken.
15. Monitor the QA requirements of the laboratory, ensure that agreed methods of both internal and external quality control are fully operative and adhered to and make recommendations as appropriate for improvements to internal quality standards.
16. Organise participation in external and internal quality assurance and monitoring performance, implementing corrective action where necessary.
17. Report to the Head BMS/ Deputy any breaches in department QMS as required. Provide a report for departmental meetings on the current state of QMS within the department.
18. Provide information related to quality periodically for the departmental management quality review.
19. Deliver training of the QMS and quality principles and practice to all departmental staff.
20. Deputise as required for Quality Manager.
21. Participate in conditioned hours 24/7 rotas upon satisfactory attainment in key competencies. This period will be between 3 months and 2 years, depending on previous / recent experience and familiarity with equipment and protocols. The post holder will be expected to cooperate and participate in the provision of the extended day, weekend cover and emergency out-of-hours service, if required.
22. Continue to develop own expertise and knowledge in Cellular and Molecular Pathology to promote staff motivation, this may include attendances at conferences, discussion groups, CPD, quality and/or governance related qualifications etc.
23. Learn and understand complex laboratory process, pathways and gain knowledge of all equipment, including digital pathology systems.
24. Demonstrate flexibility in working within constraints of a busy laboratory, particularly in relation to complex repertoires.
25. Collate and prepare statistics relating to QMS KPIs and departmental turnaround times. Inform Head BMS of trends, anomalies, and poor performance.
26. To apply an advanced level of analytical knowledge and skills in the operation of equipment and systems within the Department.
27. Perform day to day management responsibilities to ensure service delivery, keeping Head BMS aware of any proposed changes or significant issues in relation to quality management.
28. Assist the Head BMS in forward planning in the department. Participate in the assessment and implementation of new methods and equipment and research projects as designed by Head BMS.
29. Ensure Statutory Health and Safety procedures are implemented in the department sections.
About you
Degree or equivalent in Science or other discipline where there is a fundamental element of quality.
AND
3 years relevant experience in a management Band 6 role within finance, quality, governance or laboratory setting.
AND
2 years practical experience of using Microsoft Office suite of programmes (or equivalent), such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook
