Job Title: Quantity Surveyor (QS) & Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) Location: Essex - Hyrbid Roles Salary: Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS): Up to £41.5k Quantity Surveyor (QS): Up to £51.5k Job Overview: We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor (QS) and Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) to join our team working on rail NEC (New Engineering Contract) civil engineering and construction projects across Essex. The successful candidates will support project delivery through effective cost management, contract administration, and financial forecasting in accordance with the NEC contract. Key Responsibilities: Cost Management: Assist in the preparation of cost plans, budgets, and forecasts. Manage and report on project expenditure, variations, and financial performance. Regular cost reviews to ensure projects remain on budget. Contract Management: Work with NEC contracts, ensuring compliance with the conditions and timelines. Prepare, issue, and manage early warnings and compensation events under NEC contracts. Assist in contract negotiations and the procurement of subcontractors. Valuations & Payments: Prepare and submit monthly valuations to clients. Certify payments for subcontractors and suppliers. Monitor cash flow and work with project teams to ensure timely payments. Risk Management: Identify, manage, and report on project risks. Provide advice on potential risk mitigation strategies. Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with clients, engineers, project managers, and site teams to ensure successful project outcomes. Work closely with procurement and commercial teams for efficient material and subcontractor management. Project Reporting: Provide regular financial updates and forecasts to the senior management team. Assist with project close-out activities including final account settlements and reporting. Qualifications & Experience: Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS): Relevant degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Minimum 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within the rail, civils, or construction sector. Knowledge of NEC contracts (desired, but training will be provided). Quantity Surveyor (QS): Relevant degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. 3 years of post-qualification experience in Quantity Surveying. Strong experience with NEC contracts and commercial management in rail and/or civil engineering projects. Key Skills & Competencies: Strong understanding of construction contracts, particularly NEC. Excellent numeracy, financial analysis, and budgeting skills. Effective negotiation and communication skills. Good knowledge of rail, civil engineering, and construction projects. Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams. Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
