General Description of Position Under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Dean and Dean of Transportation, the Instructor is responsible for developing and implementing courses in the Automotive Technology program. The instructor is responsible for writing course objectives, implementing appropriate teaching strategies, advising students, monitoring and evaluating student progress, and keeping accurate and timely student records. Teaching assignments for this position include but are not limited to, various aspects of Automotive repair and maintenance with a focus on late-model products. These courses take place in a classroom/laboratory setting as well as online/laboratory (hybrid)format. This is a full-time regular position based on a 175-day academic calendar.

Essential Functions
1. Provide instruction and develop courses in assigned subject areas.
2. Practice and encourage safety.
3. Provide instruction to a diverse student population according to the objectives of each course in the Automotive Technology program.
4. Utilize a variety of instructional strategies in the classroom/laboratory that include, but are not limited to, lectures, small groups, indoor and outdoor demonstrations, and laboratory activities. Lab activities may include “mock-up” components as well as “live” work on public customer or College-owned vehicles and equipment.
5. Prepare and administer student evaluation instruments and maintain accurate student records on attendance, achievement, and progress in a timely manner.
6. Remain current in events and developments related to the subject area. Increase and improve personal teaching and subject knowledge through supplemental sources such as in-service activities, conferences, workshops, technical updates, and personal self-study.
7. Participate in division and college meetings and committees.
8. Participate in program Workforce Leadership Team (WLT) meetings.
9. Maintain security of College vehicles, equipment, facilities, and materials.
10. Serve as an Academic Advisor for students. Tasks included in this area are: advise students on their academic progress, courses needed for graduation, and division/college policies and procedures; and generally serve as the first line of communication between students and the college staff.
11. Develop and/or revise course objectives, content, descriptions, and instructional strategies on approved college curriculum forms. In addition, the instructor will develop, revise, and maintain classroom/laboratory policies, grading structures, and strategies. This instructor will review, evaluate, and recommend textbooks for course use.
12. Function as a Member of the Automotive Technology program, Transportation Division, Instructional Division, and SCC teams.
13. Interact with colleagues, students, staff, supervisors, and the public in a manner that will project a positive image of the program and the College and which promotes/facilitates instructional services such as recruitment, placement, and orientation as assigned. This includes support of SCC Policies, Goals, and Strategic Plans.
14. Maintain and upgrade the Automotive Technology classroom/laboratory instructional facilities and equipment. Responsible for verifying maintenance of facilities and equipment to ensure that it is kept in safe and proper working order for student use.
15. Individualized Development Plan (New Instructors): Each new instructor will develop an individualized development plan in cooperation with the Vice President of Instruction or his/her designee.

Marginal Functions
16. Operate and utilize as part of the teaching process appropriate audio-visual equipment, computers, and learning management system(s) including but not limited to PowerPoint, Microsoft Office products, Canvas, etc.
17. Provide information and data that will assist in the preparation of budgets, course schedules, vehicle condition reports, MAP Goals, assessment reports, and other required reports.
18. Serve as a substitute instructor within the Transportation Division when needed as assigned by the Associate Dean or Dean.
19. Serve as a technical advisor from the Automotive Technology program to assist other programs at the College.
20. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
21. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
22. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
23. Possess current knowledge and work experience in the Automotive Technology field. This will include one or more of the following areas: Auto Maintenance and Light Repair, Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drivetrain and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating and Air Conditioning, Engine Performance, Light Vehicle Diesel Engines, Automobile Advanced Engine Performance, Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis, Light Duty Hybrid/Electric Vehicles.
24. Be able to operate the tools and test equipment used in Automotive vehicle systems.
25. Be able to demonstrate all types of processes required of an Automotive technician for the particular courses assigned to teach.
26. Ability to develop and incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and techniques in the classroom/laboratory.
27. Ability to devise and utilize appropriate evaluation methods for classroom/laboratory use.
28. Possess a working knowledge of the Hazard Communication Standard/Hazard and Chemical Right-to-Knowlaws and regulations.
29. Ability to lift and carry up to (50) fifty pounds for short distances, and move tables, chairs, and media equipment.
30. Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
31. Ability to use basic computer skills.

Schedule
This is a full-time regular position with an implied 40-hour work week. Teaching assignments for this position are scheduled and approved by the College, between 7:00
a.m. and 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday based on the instructional work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. This is a full-time regular position based on a 175-day work calendar. Minimum Qualifications
33. Associate’s degree in an Automotive Technology field from an accredited college or university.
34. Two (2) years of experience in the automotive field related to the area of Automotive Technology.
35. Must currently hold or must obtain ASE Certification in areas of instruction plus G1, within six (6) months of hire.
36. Must currently hold or must obtain ASE Master Automobile Service Technician within two (2) years of hire.
Desired Qualifications
37. Previous teaching experience.
38. Additional post-secondary training or degree.
39. Current ASE Master Automobile Service Technician Certification
