Job Overview
The theatre department at North Manchester is looking for a dynamic band 5 scrub practitioner to step up into a Band 6 role.
The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To:
1. Contribute towards the management of the department.
2. Deputise for the team leader as and when required.
3. Provide professional leadership and support in the critical care area.
4. Actively promote practice and educational development at departmental level.
5. Act in accordance with the NMC/HCP Professional Code of Conduct.
6. Have a responsibility and legal obligation to ensure that information processed for both patients and staff is kept accurate, confidential, and secure in line with the Data Protection Act (1998) and the Security and Confidentiality Policy.
7. Assist in budgetary management.
8. Assist in creating off duty and coordinating theatres.
9. Assist in recruitment.
10. Assist in audits and various improvement projects.
Main Duties of the Job:
1. Provide effective managerial and clinical leadership of the departmental staff in conjunction with or in the absence of the Team Leader.
2. Responsibility for team in the absence of the team leader.
3. Responsibility for the emergency theatre during unsocial hours.
4. Contribute towards the effective use and deployment of departmental staff.
5. Organise the effective management of the daily operating list to ensure full utilisation of the session.
6. Undertake individual performance review and the identification and implementation of personal development plans for junior staff both registered and unregistered.
7. Assist the theatre manager in the effective management of the budget specific to specialist area.
8. Monitor the compliance of all Trust Policies and National Guidelines.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
1. Relevant post band 5 theatre experience.
2. Post-basic qualification to minimum diploma standard or equivalent level gained by experience.
3. Recent 2 years scrub experience.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Health-related degree.
2. Recognised management or leadership qualification.
3. Evidence of recent CPD activities.
4. Evidence of leading emergency and maternity theatre.
Experience
Essential Criteria:
1. Substantive experience or equivalent.
2. Experience of managing a theatre team on a shift by shift basis.
Desirable Criteria:
1. Experience in multiple specialities like gynae, urology, general, maternity, maxilla facial, breast, and dental.
2. Experience in auditing and mentoring.
3. Experience in HIVE and health roster.
Skills
Essential Criteria:
1. Good communication skills (written, verbal & IT).
2. Leadership skills.
3. Evidence of the acquisition of relevant skills associated with the role.
4. Clinical management skills.
Knowledge
Essential Criteria:
1. Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of the specialty.
3. Demonstrate an understanding of HR policies and procedures.
4. Willingness to undertake relevant further study as required for the post.
