General Dynamics in St Leonards-on-Sea currently provide avionic mission computing systems for a wide range of military fast jets, helicopters, and UAV’s. Recent success has resulted in General Dynamics developing the next generation of Advanced High Performance, Safety Critical Mission Computer Systems to meet the needs of latest platforms in development by several aircraft manufacturers. These Mission Computing Systems provide the functionality that integrates aircraft systems, sensor systems and weapon systems with the information and control systems required by the aircrew to meet the demanding operational needs of these aircraft.
Job Description
Working as a key member of our Hardware Engineering team you will help to develop a range of product solutions to meet the needs of new and advanced avionic and maritime platforms.
The successful candidate will be assigned to one of our avionic or maritime product development teams and be involved in activities across the product development life-cycle. This could include conceptual design, requirements capture, and analysis to system integration and commissioning. There will be opportunities to work within our research teams developing conceptual designs for new products and systems.
Qualifications
You will ideally be qualified in hardware, electronics or an electronic systems engineering discipline. Some experience in the defence, avionics, aerospace or naval systems industry would be preferred but is not essential.
You will also bring with you:
1. A good understanding of the challenges associated with in analogue and digital circuits
2. Understanding of the development life-cycle from requirements to production handover via; design, schematic capture, design analysis, commissioning and integration
3. Proficiency in hardware design and verification in digital and analogue circuits
4. Experience of Mentor Graphics toolset is preferred but required training will be provided.
Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng or equivalent) is desirable, but not essential. General Dynamics Mission Systems actively support employees in attaining CEng status. Where appropriate there is potential for further study support of Degree or Masters qualifications.
Additional Information
Starting salary for these positions will vary dependant upon the experience of the successful applicant. We have positions for Hardware Engineer, Senior Hardware Engineer and Principal Hardware Engineer.
We are open to hybrid working - ideally we would prefer Firmware Engineers to be on site three days per week due to the nature of the role, however we are open to further discussion aiming to be as flexible as possible.
