Salary: The starting salary will be £42,632 - £45,163 per annum, on Grade F, depending on qualifications and experience.

The role
This full-time post is available immediately on a fixed-term basis until 31 July 2026.
Please note that initially this would be an on-premise role, with a review after an initial period to potentially move to a hybrid role.
The role will involve:
* The delivery of large and small network services, including the development and testing of new platforms and services, building components, enhancements or upgrades that are compliant with the Strategy & Architecture standards and principles.
* Implement a broad range of complex technical, operational and problem-solving activities for network services, and provide professional advice about your area of expertise to academic and professional services staff.
* Support cross functional and rapid application development where existing applications and platforms are rapidly changing and require an Agile DevOps software development approach.
* The performance of IT network services and associated hardware and software, ensuring that they meet agreed service levels, and products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an effective service to the business.
* Prepare detailed reports and complex technical specifications and systems documentation and provide advice and guidance on the content.
* Provide technical expertise on the preparation of new or changed network environments to support large- and small-scale projects, working with Solutions Delivery teams to ensure change is managed and the integrity of the production environment is protected, and supervising junior colleagues where appropriate.
* Ensure the accuracy and availability of network documentation, standard operating procedures, and service support documentation.
* Coordinate unresolved issues with 3rd party suppliers/vendors and manage resolution in accordance with agreed service level agreements to minimise user/system downtime.
* The ongoing monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, load balancing, and preventative maintenance using network management tools and best practices, and ensure problems are managed in a controlled environment to ensure the network performance can meet user demand and reduce the risk of unplanned outages.
Key technical skills:
* Excellent knowledge of all aspects of WIFI technologies, including design requirements, implementation, and troubleshooting with experience working on large scale campus networks. Ideally working with providers such as Cisco, Aruba, Juniper, Ekahau, etc.
* Excellent knowledge of LAN, WAN and Core network technologies.
* Knowledge of VXLAN, EVPN Campus and Data centre networks.
* Experience in firewall administration, configuration, and troubleshooting (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto, etc.).
* Good knowledge and hands-on experience on VPN’s (SSL, Remote access, IPSEC).
* Experience of managing IPAM/DNS/DHCP.
* Routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP.
* Traffic shaping, QoS, CoS.
* FLOW Analysis (NetFlow, SFlow).
* Load balancing experience and an understanding of load balancer technologies.
* Ideally experience working on Juniper and Aruba technologies.
* Exposure to VOIP technologies and an understanding of call routing and dial plans.
* Experience with monitoring and management solutions (SolarWinds, Airwave, Junos Space, Aruba Central, Juniper MIST).
* Strong experience in a technical support and implementation role, with experience providing 3rd level support in a similar field for over 3 years.
* Experience of providing helpdesk style technical support to internal and/or external users.
