Job Overview
Working on Water Industry projects for AMP8, our client is looking to strengthen their Engineering team with a Principal Mechanical Engineer. You will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Mechanical) or the Senior Design Manager.

Key Responsibilities
* Report to Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, Regional Discipline Lead, and Engineering Manager.
* Produce complex design layouts that are cost-effective, meet the requirements of the specification, and can be constructed and commissioned effectively.
* Production and checking of all design deliverables including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.
* Working alongside other disciplines for the development of site/plant 3D model.
* Ensure that standard designs & practices are utilized wherever possible.
* Deliver the design stage outputs of each project within the agreed timescale and budget.
* Coordinate design outputs across all technical disciplines.
* Provide estimates and feedback for the Proposals department.
* Establish working relationships with construction staff and supply chain representatives to promote buildability and supply chain efficiency in design outputs.
* Work to procedures and processes to ensure the continuing development of the department.
* Assist in developing, monitoring, and reviewing procedures and processes.
* Write, update, and monitor efficient procedures to aid the smooth running of the department.
* Ensure coordination of designs with all other disciplines internal and external to the company.
* Maintain files and records throughout the duration of contracts.
* Assure customer satisfaction.
* Chair Operability and Maintenance workshops with the Client to review solutions ensuring adequate measures are in place for operability and maintainability.
* Work within a culture where satisfying the customer is recognized as key to achieving other objectives.
* Assist in supervising and developing staff.
* Ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
* Reduce waste to a minimum from all departmental activities.
* Ensure designs take account of environmental issues.
* Ensure that design takes full regard of all CDM 2015 Regulations and health and safety requirements.
Experience and Qualifications
* Demonstrable experience and strong knowledge of engineering principles including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
* Strong understanding of the principles of water and sewage treatment.
* Experience managing staff in designing relevant discipline aspects of water and sewage treatment plants.
* Membership of a professional institution / chartered.
* Ability to rationalize designs and produce economic plant layouts.
* Good general knowledge of all aspects of water treatment, e.g. mechanical engineering, process engineering, electrical engineering, and project management.
* Strong knowledge of roles and responsibilities under CDM 2015 Regulations.
* Strong knowledge of industry standards (BS, WIMES, BSRIA, etc.), HSE regulatory requirements (PUWER, LOLER, PSSR 2000, DSEAR, etc.), The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016 (Reg31), Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI), etc.
* A flexible mind, with the ability to assimilate large amounts of different data at one time.
* Ability to present technical proposals clearly, confidently, and convincingly.
