About the Role
Operating within the Commercial Disputes & Regulation division, this team navigates some of the UK's most complex and engaging regulatory challenges, with a focus on energy markets, public law, and competition issues.
This role offers an exceptional opportunity for a high-performing solicitor with a background in regulated utility sectors, competition law, or public law. It suits someone who thrives on variety, enjoys client-facing work, and has a proactive approach to delivering solutions.
What You'll Do:
* Provide top-tier legal advice across diverse regulatory disciplines, with a focus on energy regulation, public law, competition law, subsidy control, and procurement.
* Manage high-profile cases, including regulatory investigations, appeals, and disputes.
* Work at the forefront of energy sector developments, contributing to projects driving the UK's net-zero goals, including offshore wind, hydrogen, and CCUS initiatives.
* Represent clients in matters before regulatory bodies, the Competition and Markets Authority, and the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
* Offer strategic guidance on subsidy control, public procurement, and foreign direct investment (FDI) regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
* Deliver concise, solutions-focused advice tailored to clients' needs.
* Lead complex legal matters with support from senior colleagues.
* Build strong client relationships, understanding their business goals and market pressures.
* Develop expertise across energy regulation and related legal areas.
* Support internal knowledge sharing and contribute to the team's inclusive culture.
Your Skills and Experience:
* PQE: 4-8 years with experience in energy regulation, competition law, subsidy control or public law.
* Strong legal research skills and the ability to handle diverse challenges.
* Excellent communication and advocacy skills, both written and verbal.
* Proven ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
* A client-focused mindset, coupled with problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities.
