Job Description
The Principal Naval Architect is responsible for leading the weight management strategy for multi-billion-pound submarine programmes. This involves aggregating weight and centroid reports, presenting status to Chief Naval Architects, and generating mitigation plans.
The role requires defining and managing mass budgets for submarine programmes, breaking down to system level, and supporting submarine sea trials. Additionally, the successful candidate will create and maintain a comprehensive database of parts mass properties, promote a culture of weight control, and work with system engineering to integrate weight as a fundamental design constraint.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in an Engineering or Mathematics subject, experience with weight management, and ability to work independently providing technical leadership as part of a team.
The Weight Engineering Team at BAE Systems plays a critical role in whole boat design and assuring whole boat safety. The team estimates, collates, and presents mass properties data for multi-billion-pound submarine programmes.
