Our Senior Pharmacy technician team supports medicines optimisation across the Trust in critical care, the emergency department, and inpatient wards. As a tertiary centre, our specialist wards include respiratory, cardiology, neurology, transplant, haematology, oncology, maternity, and paediatrics.
We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacy technician to join our Woman & Children's team, to support the division in the delivery of our Medicines Optimisation strategy.
This leadership role provides the opportunity for experienced Pharmacy technicians to put their existing skills into practice, working with innovative technology and systems, while also continuing to build further skills for future career progression. You will participate in the medicines reconciliation process, supply of medication during inpatient stay, support effective & timely discharge, and patient counselling. You will also support the development of rotational staff working within your area and contribute to quality improvement.
Main duties of the job
To improve the quality of care to patients in clinical & ward areas by means of an efficient medicines management system. This will include the use of patient's own drugs (PODs), providing in-patient supply dispensing, near-patient discharge systems, and counselling patients about their medicines.
To support the Associate Chief Pharmacist - Clinical Pharmacy Services, Chief Pharmacy Technician, and Principal Pharmacy Technician - Clinical Services in the delivery of the departmental medicines management strategy via provision of technical ward-based pharmacy services.
To contribute to the strategic and operational planning of technical ward-based services in Acute & General Medicine / Woman's & Children's services.
To provide training for all pharmacy staff on all aspects of technical medicines management, including medicines reconciliation (MR) as required and act as an 'Educational Supervisor' for Pharmacy technicians training within the clinical services team.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Minimum qualification NVQ3 Pharmacy Services, BTEC Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent.
* Registered with the GPhC Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT).
* Medicines management accreditation (National Framework /or in-house recognised equivalent confirmed at interview).
* Medicines reconciliation accreditation (National Framework /or in-house recognised equivalent confirmed at interview).
* Post-registration management or leadership qualification.
* Train the trainer course (or equivalent).
* Accredited educational supervisor for Medicines Management and Medicines Reconciliation (national framework) or equivalent.
* Member of APTUK.
* Post registration qualification in Pharmaceutical medicines Management and/or patient consultation skills.
Experience
* Recent and significant post-qualification experience including hospital ward and dispensary pharmacy.
* Current post Band 5 or equivalent.
* Contributor to at least one service development.
* Experience of medication history taking and medicines reconciliation.
* Training and educational supervision experience.
* Demonstrated supervisory skills.
* Knowledge and experience of audit methodology.
* Experience of patient counselling.
* Experience of using an electronic prescribing and medicines administration system.
Knowledge

* Awareness of NICE, NLRS, MHRA/CSM and involvement in implementation of relevant guidance.
