Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
• high-quality care for all,
• being a great place to work,
• partnerships for impact, and
• research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
• we are compassionate,
• we are proud,
• we are inclusive, and
• we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
PROGRAMME GOALS
Clinical
Clinical duties will include participation in an oncall rota (either obstetrics, ICU or theatre) on a 1:8 resident basis (maximum shift duration of 12.5hrs).
The majority of normal working days will be dedicated to simulation activities (tailored to the individual).
Education
Post holders may take on a variety of projects whilst in post, but all are expected to contribute to simulation and teaching activities within ITAPS. This may involve liaison with other specialties/professional groups. Projects will be determined by the interests of the fellow and the needs of the department. It is anticipated that work produced from these will be of a standard to present nationally and could include:
• Improving feedback/debrief
• Simulation training
• Developing novel simulation scenarios to address learning needs
• Embedding interprofessional training & learning
• Innovation to address challenges in education delivery (identified from trainer/trainee feedback & other performance indicators)
• Educational research
Supervision
The Department will provide clinical supervision to oversee work during their clinical duties.
Dr Brid Cagney will supervise this fellowship with input from Drs Andrew Hughes & Dr David Marriott. They will ensure the fellow is provided with adequate education and management opportunities and achieve satisfactory progression through the programme. Post holders will work with the supervisors to set objectives and agree a personal development plan. There is financial and study leave support to allow attendance at educational events outside of Leicester related to medical simulation.
