Job overview
Are you a Paediatric Registrar looking to develop skills in Simulation?
This is the post for you!
2 posts for Simulation [full time and less than full time applicants welcome].
This is a 6-12 month simulation post specifically designed for the Middle Grade Trainee with an enthusiasm for teaching.
Full time, there will be two days per week for simulation training and 3 days per week in Acute Paediatrics on the Middle Grade rota, however, less than full time is also available.
Based at the New Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury, with some daytime duties at Maidstone.
Main duties of the job
This post is part of the doctor paediatric rota at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Trust which comprises 14 doctors. The 14 doctors include Specialty Doctors and paediatric trainees at ST4 and ST7 level.
All doctors work the same 12 PA rota, which covers neonatal unit, delivery suite, postnatal ward, paediatric ward and paediatric assessment units in rotation. There are also shifts allocated to attend outpatient clinics and community paediatric clinics.
This post would have regular sessions in Simulation and we would be able to tailor the clinical aspects of the job to the successful candidates needs and interests.
We have established high fidelity simulation suites at both sites and we would provide trust-based training in all aspects of simulation including running the simulation, debrief courses and human factors. It would be expected that a minimum of a PG cert in Medical Education is completed during this job which we would help facilitate.
Working for our organisation
The Paediatric department at the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury consists of the outpatient department, a general paediatric medical ward (Hedgehog ward) with 23 cot and bed spaces, a Level 2 neonatal unit with 18 cots( including three cots staffed and equipped to provide neonatal intensive care), and a assessment unit (Woodlands) with 18 beds. There is a fully functioning A&E department, with all associated facilities and specialities. The hospital has been selected as a major trauma centre.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is a whole-time post in paediatrics employed by the Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust.
The working pattern is distributed over an 14 week cycle. During that period there is the equivalent of two weeks of night shifts (8.30pm to 9.30am) split into two spells, Monday to Thursday and Friday to Sunday. A normal day is between 8.30 am and 5.00 pm. In addition doctors will work some late shifts (until 9pm) both at Pembury Hospital and the assessment unit at Maidstone. We have 2-10 Paediatric A & E shifts.
The doctors provide prospective cover for annual and study leave for the other doctors on the junior doctor rota. Leave cannot be taken when the doctor would be working nights or weekends, so prospective
cover only extends to missed evening sessions, equivalent to less than 2 hours per week on average.
The postholder will be expected to work closely with the nursing staff and allied health professionals as part of multi-disciplinary team to provide effective care and will supervise the junior doctors. They will take
a full part in departmental clinical governance and audit activity.
