Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
This post could either be appointed as a Band 7 preceptorship working towards an 8a position, or at an 8a depending upon skills and experience. Responsibilities will be adjusted accordingly. The post is permanent within the Durham and Darlington CAMHS Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service North base (Stanley Primary Care Centre). The post is full-time; however, part-time working will be considered.
You will be working in a multi-disciplinary team of professionals including nurses, support workers, speech and language therapists, as well as other psychologists and assistant psychologists. We also offer placements to trainee clinical psychologists.
Main Duties of the Job
The Neurodevelopmental Assessment Service provides assessment to children and young people where a question is raised around whether they may have a neurodevelopmental disorder (including but not limited to Autism/ADHD). We are seeking psychologists with a special interest and clinical experience in the assessment of neurodevelopmental disorders. The post holders will contribute to the assessment and diagnostic decision-making for school-aged young people where there is a query about whether they may have autism and/or attentional difficulties. They will work within a multi-disciplinary team including Applied Psychologists, Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurses, and Speech and Language Therapists.
About Us
There is a well-established and supportive Psychological Professions Network within the wider Durham and Darlington Children and Young People's Service supported by a highly motivated team of senior managers and clinical leads. Strong links exist between the service and local training courses in clinical psychology, counselling psychology, and psychological therapy.
Applied Psychology and Psychological Therapy is highly valued within the Trust with good professional support. Psychological Professionals provide key leadership roles within the Trust, and leadership skills and behaviours are integral to the recruitment process.
The Trust is a strongly value-based, person-centred organisation which has taken a strategic approach to continued service improvement, the modernisation of clinical roles, and the use of care pathways embedded within a functioning system of governance.
Psychologists & Psychological Therapists provide key leadership roles within the Trust. To support this, we have developed leadership profiles for each psychology band, and the profile card associated with this post is attached on NHS Jobs. We encourage you to look at these resources as they will play a part in the interview process.
Job Responsibilities
Applicants must have experience and an interest in working with young people with autism and attentional difficulties. They should have a good working knowledge of the diagnostic assessment process for autism and ADHD and awareness of differential diagnoses as part of these assessments. Applicants should have experience in conducting a range of standardised assessments, and it would be desirable if this included specialist neurodevelopmental assessments. They should be experienced in being part of (or leading, depending on experience and banding) complex formulations and providing comprehensive feedback to families and other agencies involved in a young person's care. The post holder should have the skills and experience to provide supervision, contribute to service evaluation, and manage the demands of service development and change. The post holders will need to travel to venues across County Durham and Darlington.
