Job Title: Language Assistant
Hours of Work: Approximately 8-12 hours a week from September to July
Reports to: Head of German
Start date: September 2025
The Headmaster and CEO of Eltham College family of schools seeks to appoint an enthusiastic, well-qualified German Assistant to join our dynamic and friendly German Department at Eltham College from September 2025. The role will be for approximately 8-12 hours per week and will run from September to July in the first instance.
The successful applicant will have native level fluency in German, be an excellent communicator and team player. They will hold a degree/postgraduate qualification in either German or in another related subject from a university in a German-speaking country.
Responsibilities include:
1. Helping pupils develop their oral fluency throughout the school.
2. Supporting students of German in their preparation for the oral component of public examinations (IGCSE and A-level).
3. Working mainly with pupils in exam classes (Year 10 to Upper Sixth) and assisting with pupils lower down the school.
4. Working with native German pupils in small groups as required.
Eltham College is a highly successful independent day school in south-east London, educating boys and girls aged 7 to 18 across both Junior and Senior Schools. The College has grown considerably over recent years: there are now over 800 students in the Senior School and around 260 pupils in the Junior School, and places are heavily oversubscribed. Since 2020, girls have been able to join Years 3 and 7, mirroring the Sixth Form which has been coeducational for over 45 years.
