As Financial Controller, you will lead the development of budget and reporting processes, transitioning from a traditional Management Accounting focus to a more integrated Business Partnering approach. You will drive improvements in activity-based costing, enhance financial planning for curriculum activities, and work closely with our Management Information Systems (MIS) team to develop comprehensive financial dashboards. You will work closely with the Executive Finance Director, assisting with budget production, statutory accounts, and financial reporting, while also acting as their Deputy within the department. Key Responsibilities Lead the transformation of financial planning and reporting processes to support informed decision-making. Collaborate with budget holders to improve their financial literacy and drive financial performance. Work with MIS and PowerBI to enhance financial reporting through data-driven dashboards. Develop course costing models in 4Cast to provide insight into curriculum planning and contribution margins. Assist the Executive Finance Director in preparing and submitting budgets and statutory accounts. Provide monthly financial reports, business cases, and ad hoc financial analysis to support executive decision-making. Lead a team within financial planning and analysis, developing a business-partnering mindset. Identify and implement system improvements and process efficiencies across Finance. Develop and deliver training programmes for Finance graduates and apprentices. Ensure compliance with statutory and grant funding requirements. Contribute to the ongoing development of financial policies and procedures in line with sector best practices. Essential Qualifications & Experience: Qualified Accountant (ACCA, ACMA, ACA, or CIPFA). Extensive post-qualification experience (PQE). Strong experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), ideally within the Further Education sector. Proven track record of budgeting, financial reporting, and business partnering. Experience with funding streams and income generation within Further Education (including 16-19, High Needs, Apprenticeships, and Adult Education Budget). Strong staff management and leadership skills. Experience in developing activity-based costing and analysing curriculum contribution margins. Proficiency in Excel and accounting software (BluQube experience desirable). Strong analytical skills Desirable: Degree in a relevant subject. Experience with 4Cast or similar financial modelling software. Knowledge of iTrent HR system and its financial impact.
