Group Finance Controller
Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Financial Controller to oversee our financial operations and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management and accounting, with proficiency in various accounting software. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial health of our organisation and will involve collaborating with different departments to support strategic decision-making.
Duties
1. Manage all aspects of financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts for the Executive Board.
2. Accounts payable processes to ensure timely payments and accurate record-keeping (Purchase ledger runs and any other ad hoc payments/internal transfers).
3. Implement and maintain effective financial management systems, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.
4. Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial analyses to guide business decisions for P&L, cash flow, and the balance sheet.
5. Collaborate with external auditors during audits and ensure all necessary documentation is prepared.
6. Utilise accounting software such as Sage and Xero to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
7. Reconcile sales invoices on a monthly basis and provide support to the fee process, overseeing the WIP document and process.
8. Handle all banking and associated tasks including bank reconciliation.
9. Manage intercompany invoicing/payments.
10. Ensure accurate and timely tax compliance and filings (including VAT and Corporation Tax).
11. Oversee payroll for 3 companies using Sage Payroll with the assistance of the Group Business Manager.
12. Ensure all payroll and tax journals are accurately posted and liabilities recorded.
13. Administer the trustee pension scheme including payroll for retirees and any other payments/arrangements.
Qualifications
1. Proven experience as a Financial Controller or similar role within a finance department; construction industry experience is advantageous.
2. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
3. Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, Xero) is essential.
4. Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
5. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
6. Exceptional communication skills for liaising with internal teams and external stakeholders.
7. A degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; professional qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) are advantageous.
