Band 7, Permanent post, 37.5 Hours per week
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Orthodontic Therapist (Band 7) to join our highly motivated, professional and supportive Orthodontic team at The Rotherham Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will have proven experience within the Orthodontic Therapist role and be able to evidence their current skills and knowledge as specified on the person specification. This vacancy is based within the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Department.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will undertake independent led clinics and liaise closely with the Orthodontic Team to manage and provide ongoing treatment plans. They will provide specialist contribution to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and maintain high standards of clinical care with reference to relevant research and evidence based practice.
As a senior member of the team, the appointed candidate will be expected to participate in audit, research, clinical governance and quality improvement with the service. They will be responsible for managing a small team of Dental Nurses and Support Workers. The post holder, where required, will support the teaching, mentoring and assessment of students in the department, trainees and professional staff, therefore promoting a learning culture.
The candidate will provide an Orthodontic Service, implementing care plans and performing a range of specialist clinical, restorative or preventative procedures according to care/treatment plans under the direction of a dentist/orthodontist and maintaining and recording associated records.
You will provide a specialist contribution to the clinical management of patients requiring orthodontic treatment, working in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals in order to improve patient care.
You will be responsible for creating an environment where the patient is central to all decision-making and the delivery of high quality compassionate care is everyone's prime objective.
To provide a diagnosis for a patient's condition including instigating appropriate clinical investigations and interpreting results to enable the development of an enhanced care package/immediate management plan to meet the physical and psychological needs of the patient.
Work as an autonomous practitioner through planning and prioritising own workload. The job holder is accountable for their own professional work within their scope of practice as determined by the General Dental Council without direct supervision (in line with British Orthodontic Society Guidelines) and accountable for the actions of unqualified members of staff.
They will have highly developed accurate physical skills in the manipulation of fine dental tools and materials to a high degree of precision.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Diploma in Orthodontic Therapy or equivalent diploma.
* Qualified Orthodontic Dental Nurse registered through General Dental Council (GDC).
* Highly developed specialist knowledge acquired through qualifications supplemented by post graduate experience, specialist training, and short courses.
* Orthodontic Nursing Course Certificate in Oral Health.
* Certificate in Dental Radiology.
* Teaching Certificate.

* Ability to carry out the following procedures in preparation for treatment, including: Orthodontic photographs, impressions/taking/intra-oral scanning, occlusal bite registrations.
* Ability to use a digital intra-oral scanner.
* Ability to try-in, fit, adjust, assemble and dismantle a variety of intra and extra-oral appliances, including but not limited to removable appliances, fixed appliances and functional appliances.
* Ability to assist in investigations.
* Advanced keyboard skills.
* Work flexibly within Job Plans, including occasional weekend lists.
Knowledge
* Specialist knowledge of a range of oral health procedures acquired through training.
Experience
* Managerial/supervisory experience.
* Experience of successfully operating in and delivering priorities in a team environment.
* Demonstrable experience and/or specialist training with specific client groups and those with complex needs.
