Position Overview: As a Consultant in Old Age Psychiatry, you will lead the provision of expert psychiatric care to older adults, addressing the unique mental health needs and challenges associated with aging. You will play a pivotal role in assessing, diagnosing, and managing complex psychiatric conditions while promoting the well-being and quality of life of elderly individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide clinical leadership and expertise in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of mental health disorders in older adults, including dementia, depression, and anxiety disorders.
2. Lead multidisciplinary teams in the development and implementation of comprehensive care plans tailored to the individual needs and preferences of older patients.
3. Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including cognitive evaluations and mental health screenings, to inform treatment decisions and interventions.
4. Deliver evidence-based psychiatric treatments, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, to optimize patient outcomes and quality of life.
5. Collaborate closely with families, caregivers, and external agencies to ensure coordinated care and support for older adults within various care settings, including community, inpatient, and residential care.
Qualifications:
6. Medical degree and full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC).
7. Completion of specialist training in Psychiatry with endorsement or accreditation in Old Age Psychiatry.
8. Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent professional body.
9. Substantial experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry, demonstrating expertise in the assessment and management of mental health disorders in older adults.
10. Excellent clinical skills, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
11. Strong leadership, communication, and collaborative skills.
