The Opportunity Are you eager to play a critical role in scaling up innovative materials, to help clean-up our environment. This position offers the chance to lead technical projects that bridge the gap between laboratory research and large-scale manufacturing, tackling challenges in process optimization, safety, and cost efficiency. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, acting as a key connection between product development and engineering, while also liaising with external partners. If you're passionate about chemical engineering and enjoy working in dynamic, problem-solving environments, this is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact. What You’ll Be Doing Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you’ll oversee the transfer of new materials synthesis processes from lab-scale development to pilot-scale and full-scale manufacturing. Your key responsibilities will include: Process Optimization: Troubleshooting and refining lab and pilot-scale processes to meet cost, safety, and environmental targets. Experimental Design: Conducting experiments to determine optimal conditions for scaling up production. Project Coordination: Managing pilot and scale-up activities as the primary technical contact for external manufacturing partners. Problem-Solving: Collaborating with stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure efficient production. Technical Documentation: Preparing high-quality reports and presentations to communicate progress and results. Drawing on your expertise in process development, you’ll help bring innovative products to market efficiently while ensuring compliance with high safety and performance standards. This role involves occasional travel to manufacturing and supplier sites. What You’ll Need to Succeed To thrive in this role, you’ll need: A degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field. Significant experience in transferring products from lab-scale to pilot and full-scale manufacturing in industries such as chemicals or pharmaceuticals. Hands-on expertise in processes like mixing, heat transfer, solids handling, and separations (solid/liquid and liquid/liquid). Strong problem-solving skills and a creative approach to developing technical solutions. Familiarity with material characterization and analytical techniques (e.g., PSD, FTIR, TGA-DSC, GC-MS, elemental analysis). Experience in managing capital projects, including specifying, procuring, installing, and commissioning equipment. Knowledge of batch manufacturing records and in-process testing requirements. If you don’t meet all the criteria but believe you have the skills to succeed, we encourage you to apply.
